Here's 275/65/18 in Michelin Defenders (AT2?) about 9 yrs ago, on an '06 LX. Everything else is OEM/stock and not aired down. I will probably go up to 275/70/18's if I don't get my slightly built 2UZFE 4Runner back from my son. I think if you ever plan on doing trails where you'd want to be aired down you'll want the extra inch that the 275/70/18 offers. Can anyone point to and show me pics of stock 100 on 275 70 18?
I’m trying to decide between 275.70.18 and 275.65.18. Trying to find pics of 100s on either of those.
Thank you everyone!
You”re talking about a 10mm (less than 1/2”) difference in width, and just over 1/2” difference in height, so I suspect (with limited information) that either the tread design was not adequate at keeping traction, or tire pressure was an issue. I don’t buy the rock crawling grip based on contact size alone because when aired down to the same PSI, the taller tire with give a significantly longer contact patch, much more so than what would be gained by the tread being 10mm wider.Go for the 285 definitely. I ran 275/70 and was not happy with the performance. Caused stability control to come on around corners on twisty mountain roads unless I ran them at 60psi or more. Also rock crawling they had less grip than the 285s. I ended up selling them before they even wore out and buying 285/65s again.
