Reporting back on what I've tried.

I wanted to be able to position the mount just right for me (requiring the least amount of looking away from the road, and close enough to reach without stretching), not block the vent, and have a strong connection with the phone. I gave up on magsafe charging.

I went with the Scosche MagicMount Pro2.

Using the metal plate that came with the mount attached to the OUTSIDE of my phone case on a Pixel 8 Pro, it provides an incredibly strong connection, easily withstanding washboard and rocky forest roads. Using a thinner metal plate inside the phone case was not nearly as strong. The position is good and puts the phone right where I want it.

Trouble is the dash is just a bit too curved at that spot for the suction mount to stick securely, it would fall off in a day or so, repeatedly.

Solution was to add a separate pad that sticks the dashboard with 3m adhesive on flexible wings and provides a smooth flat surface for the suction cup to stick to.

I used this eSamcore Sticky pad from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CYQ22PF2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

I'm 95% happy with it. Every several months, the suction cup still falls off the pad. Not while driving, but I'll just find it fallen off after the car has been sitting in particularly hot or cold weather. Clean it with a wet rag and re-stick it and its good for several more months. Good enough for now, but I wish this mount came in a version that just glued to the dash in the first place.

Wait till the car is heated up alot in the sun or by your AC and install it then.
That can help a bit since air expands around 4% per 10Kelvin and a little bit is always left. So you get extra suction if it is colder than the temp you applied it.

Thx for doing this post b/c this is exactly the solution I've been seeking, for all the same reasons you listed. Eye level is key for me..too many close calls looking downward in split second. I assume the mount is magnetic? Is the metal plate on outside of your case thin profile? I have a Samsung 24. Thanks..

Yes, the phone attachment to the Scosche mount is magnetic.

I used the metal plate that came with the mount. It is about 0.05 inches (1.3 mm) thick.

I recently did this a couple months back. I used a 3d printed file that was posted here before but had it modified a little. The base of the extended B ram mount was too skinny for my liking, on the original file so I had the contact point between the base of it and the grab handle screw area to be closer to the same diameter.

I mounted the ball adapter on the lower hand grab mount.

I used the new QI2 wireless charging 1" ball mount from Peak Design: Ball Mount | Peak Design Official Site - https://dk.peakdesign.com/products/ball-mount-adapter?Power=Charging+Qi2&Mount=Non-Locking&Size=1in

A RAM Mounts Composite Double Socket Swivel & Ratchet Arm RAP-B-200-2U : https://a.co/d/cVba7om

I used a dashcam hardwire kit to wire from fuse box below dash up along side pillar. I used a step bit to hollow out a hole next to the mounting bolt to allow the USB connector wire to come out along side the mount and power up the QI2 wireless charging. Just make sure to run the wire in the pillar on the inside of the airbag curtain assembly. It's isn't hard and there is lots of room to do it.

Works out great and is out of the way.

Would you be able to share the updated file so I can print one? I bought the Ram Mount version of this mount but the ball doesnt stick out far enough to give the arm any adjustment when it's mounted.

If I remember right, all we did was modify the base diameter so there was more contact in the grab handle socket. Not sure if we made it longer. My friend is going to email the file to me when he gets the chance. I will send it to you when he does.

I have the peak designs magnetic mount, mounted with 3M red double stick tape to the temp/clock LCD right in between the time and the passenger side temp. It’s solid, even in the desert whoops. I wish I could have it a little higher in my sightline but it’s the only flat non textured area I could find. The tape is plenty strong, after about 6 months of dust and dirt I pulled it off, cleaned it up and re applied some fresh tape. I like it over the pro clip because I don’t I don’t have to wedge anything in my trim.
I think this or the quadlock system are my two top choices.

Just installed and still need to route the charging cable behind the trim but still considering options on which power to use.
Proclip mount with a $24 MagSafe holder mounted with 3M tape to the Proclip.
Perfect location that doesn’t block anything, is close enuff to comfortably use when driving and obviously charges while mounted and leaves no permanent holes or damage to trim pieces.

Homebrewed magsafe charging mount. Doesn't get lighter/lower profile than this. Ease of use is a snap.

3D printed bracket custom fit to the LX vent. No movement and secure enough for a romp in the desert without vibration. I can make the plans available if anyone is interested.
