I’ve had good luck with the Gemini phone mount by CravenSpeed. It fits in one of the small switch delete plates either to the right or left of the steering wheel. The arm is bendable and you can position it out of the way of the wiper or signal selector depending on if you choose to the right or left of the steering column. You slide a magnet into your phone case and there is the corresponding magnet at the head of the mount which can rotate for easy viewing. It doesn’t contain a charger so I keep one in the waste of space in front of the gear shift. Pretty stable. I’ve had to retighten once after using for 4 years or so.
Hope it helps.
do you have a photo? having hard time visualizing even after seeing the link photos

I couldn’t find my photo buy search CravenSpeed Gemini. There’s a thread by Dan Higgins that has a couple of photos. I’ve attached one below.

PeakDesign makes very good MagSafe mounts and click-lock ball mounts that pair with their cases. I've got a couple of the charging MagSafe vent clip types in the 200 and suction cup click lock for more off-road security.

They're expensive but awesome. They only do iPhone, Samsung and Galaxy cases though.

Here's some shots of the above. Don't find that we miss the center vents blowing directly on us and helps keep phones cool in the summer. I've had thermal shutdowns using other mounts while charging w/nav running. Did 10k miles this summer and that wasn't a problem.

They're also very stable vent mounts due to the two points of contact design and dual locking knobs. One locks the vent clip and the other friction locks the rotation. The ball mount swivel allows easy adjustment for glare etc. No affiliation with PD but they are hands down the best mounts I've ever had and worth the co$t IMO.

Those are really nice mounts!

To your point with two points of contact, that's really key. Single point mounts with a lot of cantilever have limited geometry for stability.

Not as adjustable but any two generic vent mount can hold the phone solidly through the worst terrain.

Check out my AC mount on 1st page. It is better than what you have. Lower profile. It is just a ring of magnets...so you have air circulation directly into MOST of the back of phone. In addition, with how i mount it...the lower part of the vent is unobstructed...so i still get air from those vents.

My Iphone 14 Pro has an Otterbox cover. Do you think your magnetic mount would hold it through the cover?

If your Otterbox case have magsafe magnets integrated, then yes it should work great.

BUT if you have the Otterbox DEFENDER (3 piece case), then NO.

My AC mount pictured above has VERY strong magnets. If your case has Magsafe, then it will never fall even while off-roading.

In my case the only way I get the MagSafe option on Pixel phones is with a case, so direct airflow to the center back of the phone is probably less important. The case itself adds to the thermal build up, but the current solution works well.

The proprietary PD clip lock on the case provides another mount option which absolutely will not bounce the phone loose, so I can use another of their mount options for bicycle handlebars, suction cup ball mount etc. So it's really two systems in one.

Thank you kindly. I do have the Defender.

Get the Otterbox Defender XT Pro. Better case. Magsafe. Maybe not as bomb-proof but near bomb proof. :D
Thanks, will do that, first. Appreciate your help.

This is what I have now

I have no idea how good this is......but it is from a big name AND is only $6:

I still think that my vent mount is better because it allows for better air circulation...but $6 is $6. :)

this is the way to go. i have the same, i don’t want my vent blocked. on the 2016+ the passenger side mount doesn’t block the vent for the passenger so it’s a win-win
are you able to view it if is on pass side?
