I was surprised to see how much $ one can spend on PEX fittings. Adds up.

Only if you buy the SharkBite fittings. If you invest in the ring crimper and buy them by the bag, they are very inexpensive.

Exactly. The tool is somewhat expensive but it's wicked easy to use and much safer IMHO than swetting pipes in.

Crappy picture, but this is what an assembled 90* PEX bend looks like with crimp rings for the uninitiated:

The sharkbites are ridiculous but even the crimp and the squeeze rings are not that cheap for one-time uses, at least in the bigger sizes (1" and up) I'm working with, and if you go brass for the connectors themselves, that gets to be a lot quick. Interestingly, depending on which of the 2 styles you go with, either the "rings" or the tool are more expensive. Worth planning a bit if you know you will do either a small or a big system.

I'm re-plumbing every inch of my camp with Pex, I'll never sweat copper pipe again. Not worth the risk of burning down the house. Sooo much easier, especially the crimp rings (vs. the pinch style).

I was all excited about PEX, until I heard from several plumbers that some towns are now prohibiting the use of it, because apparently rodents like to munch on it... Not the biggest problem with air, but with water not so good...
