Just got a '96 LX450, complete w/diffs....I found more selection, less miles, (and less rigourous miles) lower price than Landcruisers. Hope this does not brand me a heretic. Does anyone have experience with performance chips this engine? Poor-man-s performance enhancer or scam?

No chip will make a difference. These ECMs are not programmable. the factory tune is all you will get.

Its a tractor motor in a 7,000 brick.

Enjoy the scenery

advancing the timing is the 80 "CHIP" at most.

Heretic...no. Pink Panties wearer...yes. Mud Welcome :flipoff2:

Do some reading and you'll understand the Pink Panty reference. :D Yota vs Lexus. :p

I'm really glad your LX450 has diffs. They don't move quickly at the best of times, and without diffs they are even slower.

The only real way to liven up your ride is through forced induction. Free flowing exhaust, intake and throttle body housing help a little, but the cost/ benefit ratio is pretty bad.

In an F[Z]J80 the only thing a chip could do is increase the ignition timing advance and you can do that yourself in 3 minutes with a timing light.

....most it will do is delay shift points...u can do that on your own, just press on the gas harder.

IMO the only time I would ever add a "tune" would be on a on vehicle with turbos. Other than that it is a wast of money.

EMSPowered is a pretty well respected vendor here, and the device they are selling is a stand-alone ECU that takes over control of the engine, including injectors, etc.

What it is, is too fxxxing expensive unless you are also supercharging or turboing.

The EMS solution would be a great thing if you are modding. I'd consider it if I were going forced induction or other major changes.

I agree with EMS being a respected brand....I will edit my post, I shouldn't have written, "scam"....better phrase would be, "...not a good return on investment unless forced induction."
