Like @OGBeno said, all of the diesels had them. But they're only about the size of a coffee cup and fit between the ABS unit and the firewall. There's also a vacuum switch in the reservoir that triggers the brake warning light in the dash in case of a leak.

I can take some pictures tomorrow if needed.
Thanks, no need for the pictures, I'll plan on looking for a used one at a reasonable price. I'm sure it would work fine without it but don't want to mess around when it comes to brakes.

How's this project doing these days?
It's the busiest time of the year with people getting their cars ready for winter. I haven't been able to do much of any work on it. But I have had alot of good parts coming in: Beno got me a good throttle cable. Diesel tachometer and vacuum reservoir from leland. Plazman air to water Inter cooler is here. Between Christmas and tax time it usually slows down a bit, and i hope to make some more progress then.

still thinking about this every day but not getting much done on it. Most recent task i opened up the fan clutch, planing on making some adjustments and changing out the fluid but the valve position was about 90 degrees off. Bought a new ASIAN one and put it in. great price from spareto seemed like the only place that sold them. the gas a442f throttle/kickdown cable is 1/2" shorter then the diesel so i had to get one of those. bought a junkyard tacoma shaft, replace ujoint and then had the local driveshaft shop shorten it and balance to be used for the front. Here's how far things are at the moment under the hood:

I didn't remember to take pics of the outside before i put it into the shop so here's one:

Always a good day when there are 3 diesel Toyotas in the shop!

Cluster is ready. took the "turbo" lights off, just going to run the gas tach face-plate over top even though the redline is a little too high. leaking caps on the speedometer, no surprise there, traces are good though, caught it just in time. Put all new caps in the speedo and tach. going to use the check engine light as the glow light.

denso AC condensor, derale transmission cooler installed machined the fittings that came with the cooler into AN tube nuts and then flared and bent some copper nickel tube for the transmission lines.

Universal CSF heat exchanger, coated with more KG2400 didn't want the silver showing though the grill

heat exchanger is smaller then the one that comes in the plazaman kit but hopefully will cool down enough for my uses, there is at least an inch of space between the heat exchanger, AC condenser and trans cooler. the heat exchanger is gets the best air from right behind the grill.

next up: air to water pump bracket, fuel filter housing bracket. will probibly swap to the old style reciver drier if I can find a used set of lines for sale.

Truck is pushed into the corner of the shop, easier to get to the interior then under the hood so I started working on interior. interment cluster done: coolant gauge mod, almost all new bulbs, diesel tach.

fuel pickup bracket installed.

re-keyed all the locks with new wafers, new keys.

new vapor barrier in the door panels.
re-enforced door panel clip area with superglue.
deep clean inside of front doors and install sound deadening.

big shout out to @Trail Teq I asked if a UT comp system would fit to one of his steering column mounts. I sent him the screen and he made this great enclosure for the screen and buttons! Much better then the original snap together enclosure (your supposed to hot glue the screen and buttons in place) the trail TEQ enclosure has metal bolt holes and machine screws to hold things in place, much better. Curved base is a perfect match to the steering column cover, nicer texture then your average 3d printed part.
comparison side by side, trail TEQ top ut comp enclosure bottom:

next I moved onto the seats. pretty sure these are 91-92 seats. covers are well worn. driver's seat was repaired once before. thought about putting a pair of corbau seats in would have been alot easier and about the same cost but i decided to repair what i had as i didn't want the seats to end up any higher of a position. Rear seats just deep cleaned with extractor and then covered up with escape gear covers. Front seats totally disassembled. driver's seat had 6 broken welds on the frame. foam repairs in the past cross threaded bolts, etc. Installed new bottom foam, welded frame back together but reused the worn fabric as i wanted to use escape gear slip over covers anyway only option i could find for replacement cloth was landcruiser heaven.

i wanted a strong tow hitch that didn't drop down like most, not ready to commit to a aftermarket rear bumper just yet, settled on the slee hitch. it's designed to be used with their bumper but works great without it.

a while back i read a few threads about running the exhaust system inside the frame. i thought that's crazy it would be so tight with the transfercase sticking out on the right side also. so i started making a traditional outside the frame exhaust. halfway done i cut it apart and started over making an inside the frame exhaust... yes it is tight but there are many benefits. Way less bends, less exposure to smash with rocks and easier to tie in sliders. (when i bought my truck it was missing a tube on the right front prob because this is where the exhaust is in the way. the old system off this truck actually had some 3" non-magnetic stainless bends so I reused them the rest is 409 stianless. mostly mig welds but a few tig here and there. Stainless works turbo muffler,.

unique tail pipe over the frame at the end. the slee hitch is where you would normally put it. the previous owner cut away the bottom of the rear quarter panel.

made a new heat shield above the new exhaust location.

Dobs "2.5" lift springs. I'm measuring a 4" front and 4.5" lift rear even with a front bumper and winch. delta 3" arms more castor would be nice . i think i'm going to try a lower spring. i don't need the truck this tall anyway. let me know if you want to trade.

ahh wiring.

first start didn't go as smooth as I had hoped. there was transmission fluid pouring out of the front of the trans. As it turns out. wholesale automatics either chooses not to chamfer their torque converters or mine accidentally got skipped. The factory converter has a generous chamfer on the ears that stick out.... i've installed loads of converters and front seals. this is the only one i've ever torn.
