Parking brake wouldn't engage. At all

I thought PO must have set up something wrong as I've never been in there.
Adjuster on drum didnt work either (just spun) and shoes didnt engage...

Hit the manual , started taking things apart , and found a homemade circlip on one of the adjuster pegs that limited expander arm travel (prevented shoes from expanding). See it?

Thank you o creative prior owner.

Also had lower spring on wrong side.

Toyota should have the stock clip , don't you think?

@diogenese explanation is great, but @Jdc1 's pic proves again that a picture is worth a thousand words. You should be good to go now...other than that new urge to plate everything before you reassemble!

Best

Resist the urge.....

Anyone that has been following my build sees that I am essentially putting a puzzle together. The e brake was missing on my truck and for some reason was one of the most difficult projects for me to piece together so far.
If I'm talking on the phone while I'm working sometimes I have a hard time concentrating on the PB arrangement, which is why it's good to have a few spares nearby!:grinpimp:

but its so hard to resist when it burns inside of you..what's even harder is keeping track of the parts from the plater who loves to move parts from one bag to another.

I didn't post a photo of my park brake, it might have scared some of you! It got degreased and went back in rusty
From experience it looks like there are two schools of landcruiser owners. People that get to drive their 40s and people that are buried in the muck and mire of a resto. Both types seem equally happy.

I like my restoration shiny where it needs to be, but inside a brake drum function is more important to me ;) the only bit that got painted on my gearbox was the levers!

A rusty drum will grab the shoes better than a shiny one.

haha , unless you have more than one, 3 is ideal. One for wheeling/ driving and enjoying. One to restore and one for reference/parts.

That's fuzzy math. This is the way it adds up for me:
When I got my first Landcruiser, I thought I was lucky.
When I got the second one, I thought I was blessed.
By the third I realized I was cursed!

Somewhere around #5 or 6 I realized I was gonna have to open a shop to support my habit!

But yeah, I really get the reference thing. Still it's just as useful to make friends with someone that has the same year rig. That's what I did when I fried the wiring harness and had the luxury of ordering a brand new one from Mr. T (for the whopping sum of $90!). Pulled my buddy's rig along side mine and hung that harness in 45 minutes.

For $90 I'll take two. One to install, and a spare for a rainy day :D

Parking brake is on my to do list... good thing all the other brakes work 3X as good as new... parking brake, not as well.
