Park and drive light on at same time.

Hey folks.

First off, this site is amazing. The amount of knowledge found here is unbelievable.
i could use assistance in finding a reason/source of why my my P and D light on the combometer illuminate at the same time. doesnt matter if im in P or D. they are both on. has erratic shifting at cruising speed also. any help would be great. i have entered many option of my "condition into search catagory and havnt had much luck.

You didn't give any information about your truck so I will take a guess thet the neutral start switch is faulty. It is the pie shaped item on the left side of the transmission. It runs the tally lamps on the dash as well as neutral and park starting.

93 fzj. thanks for the info. i started to move the connector around at the bell housing for the park neutral switch and the lights would flicker. the wire harness mounting tabs in that area are trashed. couldnt get the connectors seperated to check for corrosion. it stopped doing it today, maybe water in the connector. thanks for the info. apologize for the newbie mistake.

Updating this thread with some tech

When I first bought my 93 last year the "D" light was out, and I didn't have reverse lights occasionally. I chased wires and connections and eventually found the connector underneath the PHH looked a little "suspicious", this is the connection that plugs into the engine harness and the trans harness. I pulled it apart and found old dried up coolant inside the connector, along with some old corrosion. At the time, I replaced two pins that had the worst corrosion and everything was working fine. Fast forward to last week and I was getting the P and D lights on at the same, along with the occasional odd shift. I dove into that connection again and found a bit of water in there.

This go around I had cut that connection off of a spare harness I had and went through extensive efforts to make it waterproof from the back side, which is were it seems water can enter. Last night I removed and properly replaced that connection from my harness and everything is back to normal.
