IIRC, when I ordered these I talked to the guy and just said I had 35" tires and he recommend what I should get. (I wanted the heavy duty chains).

So, you are right about the actual tire size differences between the metric and standard.

Leni--are you driving your rig down on Saturday? Worst case scenario, we can measure them out on Saturday.

Onur,

I'm coming down on Saturday. We can measure them up then.

Guy - it's actually a good run for the :princess: because it's like a winter wonderland, not too bumpy, nice and quiet with the engine off when extricating someone else or leave the engine on for the heater - :princess: choice - or she can get out and walk around in the snow. Wendy may go, and she would take her x-country skiis and snowshoes.

Correct on the chains - try them on. I will have to use extenders for a set I have for 285-75R16's to make them fit on 33x10.50-15's.

285 mm = 11.22" wide
75% = 8.42" high
16" + 2*8.42 = 32.8 high, aka
32.8x11.2-16's.

But they still don't fit - the metric sizes are measured differently than the SAE (?) sizes.

If you decide to get the 'correct' size for your 33's, I'd be interested in buying your current set. That's my exact tire size.

I'm available for manual labor... what equipment can/should I bring?

The :princess: indicated interest in going but I'm thinking this not a good introductory ride... Thoughts?

Guy

Guy - One or both of you is welcome to ride along with me. Others may also have empty seats if you want to check out other vehicles.

Steve has given you some ideas on whether your :princess: would enjoy the ride. If she's got lots of warm clothes and doesn't mind standing in a two foot snow drift while we extract someone who's stuck, then she'll do great! Or she can also hang out in the vehicle with the heater running, but some folks might find that a little boring after the first four or five times. (This may not be an exaggeration. I think we will be pushing the envelope on this run.)

Or as Steve said, if she would want to snowshoe or cross-country ski while we play/get unstuck, then that could work as well. The short answer to your question - it depends - but you know your :princess: better than we do, so the two of you can talk it over and make your own decision.

As far as equipment, I don't need anything. I will bring a regular shovel, snow shovel, tire chains, tow straps, winch, etc. But you'll be welcome to help dig one of us out if we need it!

Correct. Feel free to play musical chairs and sample vehicles all you want. I will have an empty seat no matter which truck I take.

Yep, with any luck at all.

Sportsmen's Warehouse has Sorels right now for $90.

also, Ali and Greg, are you guys in? we know your vehicle stats, but I hadn't seen you say you were in for sure. just checking so we know how many vehicles to expect.

I "want" to go but something is up with my clutch (pedal is engaging right off the floor). If it's only hydraulics I should have plenty to time to fix it but if it the problem is somewhere deep it could be a long project.

Guy - One more follow-up. You had asked about "equipment" to bring, and I said that none was necessary. However, I realized that I should give you a heads up on how to dress and other stuff to bring.

You will want to have warm clothes that will stay dry if wet. Jeans are not recommended, as they will get wet and then freeze. NOT very comfortable. Some sort of ski pants or similar is recommended.

High snow boots or gaiters that will keep the snow out of your hiking boots are recommended.

Bring enough food and drink as though you will need to spend the whole day and the next night out there. It doesn't happen often, but we have had people out in the woods until the wee hours. A sleeping bag probably wouldn't be a bad idea.

Depending if your wife goes or not, if she doesn't come on the run, tell her not to worry if it gets late. If she hasn't heard from you by the morning of the next day following the run, then she can start calling the other Cruiser wives for a status report. We will be equipped to survive a night out there if we need to.

That's the basics - I'm sure others will chime in with other stuff that I forgot. Still sound like fun?!? I was never a Boy Scout, but we like the motto - Be Prepared!

OK, let us know. looks like we may have enough to try a small group starting at both ends of the trails and meet in the middle.:D we may even have ham communication to be able to talk from both sides. wouldn't that be cool. though all starting together is good too.

That would be different...

I wonder how "FJCruiser Gash" is this year?

I have lots of the .mil, expedition type, cold weather gear; tents, sleeping bags, parkas, etc.

Do we want to designate a :princess: contact to call the rest? We might be able to hit a repeater to get a message out.

I think the north face has Verizon cellphone contact now anyway. Apparently all those pseudoenvironmentalists who have gained control of the Valle Caldera need their cellphone service... Man, I could go on about *that*.

Pappy has phone patch ability, if he has figured out how to work it by now!

Dude, you serious? He got lost with a GPS! Oh!, I forgot, we were supposed to forget that....

[sigh] Gotta go with Rudy on that one :flipoff2:. I will need to double check, but I think my membership in Upper Rio FM might have expired, so it might be a moot point.

hmm, I wonder if the membership and the access code go hand in hand. i don't think they're that sophisticated.

Thanks for the heads up on the gear list! I'm not a scout either but I do like having fun with minimal surprises.
