I like the graphite too. Just bought some of the Tundra steel wheels for cheap -waiting to pick them up and put new shoes on them. Don't want to paint them black, but might try the graphite color. Great thread. Thanks

Les Schwab around here powdercoats steel wheels for $25/ea.

im having trouble posting pics so if you look me up on flcikr under people" Ded Bhind Da Eyz", theres a photo stream . i was going to go with dupli:graphite but i am planning on matching the arb/slee bumper and dont want to spray paint my bumpers. as you can see, they are much darker, and are metallic, photos dont do them justice.

Socal - Even Walmart has a pretty good selection of spray paint... There are lots of varieties of shades of blacks and some don't look quite black... Some have textured finishes, metallic finishes or properties, hammered finishes, flat, satin, gloss, semi-gloss... Most of those textures and finishes are available in lots of colors... You can also go to a local hardware store or auto paint supply store and have them match your bumper color and many can put the paint into a spray can as well... Good luck!

semi-gloss rustoleum high enamel, those huge brushed aluminum cans match the ARB powdercoat perfectly. That is what I use on my rims and it matches quite well. I use it on the ARB every few trips out.

Just need some quick help, for those who have rattle canned their wheels...what did you guys do to prep them? WHats the best paint stripper to use? Im hoping to start on the wheels tonight!

I didn't strip mine. I just washed every nook and cranny with warm water and Dawn dish washing liquid and used a scotchbrite pad for the sponge. Dry thoroughly. Wipe down with laquer thinner. Then used an adhesive promoter like Bulldog. Then 3 coats paint. First two coats very light, third coat full coverage. Read directions and follow amount of time between coats.

I was going to paint the emblems but at the last minute I decided to mask them off. They might have looked just as good painted, but by leaving them chrome, it gives them a real fine detail.

I washed the center caps with dawn (degreaser), dried them, put masking tape over the sombrero's, "molded" the masking tape with my fingernail, then took an exacto knife and trimmed the masking tape. Then I shot the center caps with Bulldog adhesion promoter, then shot them with the same duplicolor as the wheels. I finished the wheels and center caps with the duplicolor clear. I am very pleased with the finish and I spent about $20.

Those look great!

Another option is perhaps going with a texture granite look! ;-)
(or perhaps marble?) One can get many faux textures.

Socal, I like those! Good choice on the powdercoat. Do you happen to know who the manufacturer of the powdercoat is? I only have Cardinal and Tiger Drylac books here in the office...

I like the more grey colors rather than flat, semi, or gloss black. Love the anthracite powdercoat, also like the graphite paint jobs shown earlier.

Petr, you don't have those rims refinished yet? Those left Texas over a month ago. Get busy man :grinpimp:.

Hey Kerry! Yeah, been slackin...:meh: But it is a bigger picture decision...whatever happens on the wheels is going to be the color for the front and rear bumpers...and since I am powdercoating, it is not something I want to redo.

I'm going to lightly sand blast my wheel and was going to give it a thin epoxy coat then use the duplicolor paint, am i abusing with the epoxy coat or the duplicolor adherance is good enough to sray directly on the wheel.?

Just get the sandable primer then spray with the duplicolor followed by clear coat! The adherence of the duplicolor is nowhere near good enough! Might be good if you find black primer so when you scratch your wheels, it isn't obvious;)

Ok i'll prime them with the black epoxy i have here.

Not sure how clear coat will help the durability but I will try putting VHT clear coat on this weekend...I'll run it through some mud then tell you if the paint made it through haha

I wouldn't clear coat. What happens when you need to touch up? Spray over the clear coat then have to re-coat?

Just hit it with some black paint and enjoy. touch up when/where it's needed.
