August '09 update - the Duplicolor code 88-00511 Nissan Platinum is still available and is great match.

Just completed restoring my '94 center caps - the were in much worse shape than post #16 above. Taped off the center, used a little 150 grit sandpaper followed up with some steel wool to remove any remaining flakey paint then wiped the caps clean with mineral spirits. Applied 4 coats of paint and 3 coats of clear coat - very light coats each time. Very pleased with the results and match to the rims!

i used regular old krylon. no issues yet. going on a few years.

Most of the paint recommendations will work, with Rustoleum being my choice. I just bought a '94 and the center caps needed repaint, and I used Rustoleum. Preparation is more important than paint: Use 400 grit paper and be thorough. Use a good primer, because primer sticks to plastic, and paint sticks to primer. Use test panels first to avoid runs. Good luck!

I have a collectors edition and was thinking of painting the Toyota emblem the black color used on the "D's" on the wheels. Anyone know of a good match for that?

I'm gonna do it!!

Hey guys, the caps look really nice, my 96 LX450 has caps that are done, I mean done in. Willmaxr had a nice outcome on his caps. Does anyone know the color code for the 96 Lexus? Would like to know the gold color as well. Thanks for any help:cheers:

I finally got around to doing my center caps. It took me a while to locate the Nissan paint. Schmucks told me the code was outdated and it was unavailable. I spent Friday night prepping the centers (degreaser, sanding, priming, etc). I wasn't about to give up and settle for another color. So, I went to my local parts store that also sells Dupli Color. They were able to order the paint (I got 2 cans but only used one). I didn't clear coat the centers. We'll see how they hold up. They look 100% better. :D

About to tackle this project, what black did anyone use for the center of the center caps? Flat black, gloss black? Just Rustoleum automotive black?

The duplicolor 88-00511 no longer exists. I guess duplicolor changed there numbers and can size. Is there an OEM paint code for the center caps. If so the guys and O'Rileys said they can mix a spray can of OEM color for like 7 bucks.

Anyone have an update on what matches? Is Duplicolor code 88-00511 Nissan Platinum discontinued? If so, is there another option that doesn't need to be ordered? Maybe a home depot/o'reillys option? Thanks guys.

Anyone knows color code for LX 450 Hub caps

Thanks

UPDATE:
The new DupliColor part number for the Nissan Platinum Metallic is #BNS0595.

Some stores still have old inventory so you may see both part numbers out there.

Timely post boydmick; I was just looking for that!

Anyone have a good suggestion/part number for the clear coat?

How about a paint for the gold in the "d rings"?

I just did mine with the Dupli Color Nissan Platinum Metallic and Dupli Colors clear coat. For the gold I went to a hobby store and bought some Testers gold enamel. I think it matched pretty good. I can post some pics tomorrow if anyone wants them.

Dan
