Very nice.

I did mine a couple of years ago, but rushed it and put the clear coat on too soon. Gave them a bit of cracked and flaky appearance.

Yours look great!

poorly typd on my iPhone using IH8MUD

I do respect the efforts, but you guys are nuts!

Car wash, matte black spray can, re-apply as needed, about once a year.

How about not painted or even on the rig?!?!?!?!?! I started to paint them one day and read what many had done. Goodness that seemed like a lot of effort.

I pulled 'em off and they've never been back on. I figure one was destined to fly off at any time and then I'd have to take them all off anyway.:hillbilly:

Funny I liked the look too and after all that work I haven't put them back on yet.

Retiring early and being able to screw around in your garage for a day without worry about time isn't all that bad of a thing.

Finally got the pictures downloaded.
I started with sanding the hubcaos down with 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper. Mine had almost no old paint left.
This is after 3 to 4 coats of the Platinum Metallic.

Then I painted the symbol with the Testers gold enamel and applied 3 to 4 coats of the clear.

I just used the one can of each. Seems to cover fine with thin coats.
Here's what it looks like on the LX.

This was an easy fix that really makes a difference.:bounce:

Hope this helps.

how did you paint the center lexus symbol gold ? finepaint brush by hand ? tape around it ? or did you use a stencil ? thinking of doing my land cruiser ones but i dont want to get paint on the outside of the symbol !

A fine brush, some Testors hobby paint, and a slow steady hand!

I think I did two coats.

Sprayed mine last weekend with the nissan paint color. Turned out nice

I agree. Looks better without them on there at all.

So now that your caps look good, what is the process to bring the wheel up to par???

I wish I was handier at least I can lay down some decent paint
Sand like a mofo
I got down to 50! (Careful ;)
Need like 1000 grit to really make it shine after a few coats
Wash with soapn water
Lay at least 4 full coats starting pretty light and staying pretty light really..
*always make sure ur painting above 65° otherwise wont shine*
I could have saved paint but I'm down to like 1/3 my silver with only one cap done... I'll try to save more now I know my pattern

For my LX450 I used:

Amazon product ASIN B00407V4D6
And for the clearcoat:

Amazon product ASIN B00407NK6A
I should have done a bit more fine sanding, but they look pretty good if you don't get REAL close. I didn't want to bother with the gold inlay. I never really liked it anyway.
They are ALMOST a perfect match to the wheels. Again, if you don't get real close.
