1969 FJ55
Rides like a champ...on a flatbed
Blown F motor, I was told something happened with the timing gears. Been sitting for 10 years in my hometown and I didn't even know it.

Plans: unsure...possible high performance 2F or 350 swap.
FJ60 Axle swap? 4 or 5-speed swap? Rustoration.

Sure do. Here are some pictures from Hindsight when he found it and rescued it.

Here she is buried up to the frame:

I will post up some more on a build thread I am putting together to document the progress. One of our kids calls it "Napoleon" from the book Animal Farm; another calls it "Rusty". It is cleaning up nicely with some Turtle Wax vinyl restorer and a pressure washer.

Original F motor runs strong
Original PTO winch with a broken U-Joint
All gauges work
33x12.5 Super Swamper tires that will stay for now
Rear window works well
Brakes need rebuild and new master cylinder

In the future we will either rebuild the F motor or pull it and replace it with a 350
Brake rebuild
And TONS of rust repair

Newbie Intro

Howdy Folks.

I've had a 72' for a few years now, didn't know about ih8mud!

Anyhoo, I camp out in Anza Borrego quite a lot, and while I'm not a crawler, I do like to poke around in soft stuff, steep stuff, rough stuff.

I'm an avid cook, and really enjoyed the Campfire Cuisine thread. I like to travel light, but between some dutch ovens and a trash can smoker, I do alright.

I found ih8mud poking around for clutch info. The picture is where my pig is currently, and I can't get her out the clutch is slipping so bad.

So if anyone can direct me to the tech thread best suited to working on the clutch ( I can wrench but never on a transmission ) I'd be most appreciative. I take it LUK is the best after-market clutch? I've only just started research.

Thanks everyone, I think I'm gonna like it here.

luk is one of the best brands, but it's also not overly hideously priced. they also manufacture a lot of clutches that are marketed under other names. have you tried adjusting the slave/master rods (master is under dash, slave at bellhousing)?

1975 fjf55

Been lurking for a month, just picked up my 75 fj55 last week.

I'm not quite sure what's been done to her, looks pretty original (2F motor!) Runs well, needs brake work and has some cancer in the roof.

rest of the body is decent, I plan to fix the roof and few other spots and repaint.

Phreak9i6,

Welcome to the group. I always like to see new ones and hear the plans. When you got time bring some more pictures, down to the group. Good luck!

thanks for the warm welcome!

Thanks for the welcome. I'll be sure to post some more photos, maybe now that the snowstorms are passing for a bit I can get out and actually do something with the FJ besides move it around to clear the driveway :)

Ok, now that's nice! You have to bring it down to the pig forum and tell us some more about it. I'd like to see the rear AC.

Hi There,
My first Pig. Just got it a few weeks ago. Clean title in hand (thanks DMV!), and a host of issues. All the minor bits are there so that attracted me. Has the usually rust issues, already being dealt with.

I found a few oddities so far. It's a '71 but has disc brakes (front only). Has a roof rack bolted directly through the roof. (oops!). Has a auxillary fuel tank with a floor mount switch and separate fuel filler and door (drivers side). Exhaust is exiting (redundant?) right in front of rear tire. Has some made up electrical switches. Has 3 on the floor but center stack H_N_L select. Came with a original rim (spare tire) in grey and super cool original tire (will keep). Spare is in trunk as aux fuel tank is where spare normally is.

Digging the red air cleaner housing, so probably will re-do that. Rear window works a charm but handle is broken so haven't opened the rear gate as of yet.

All needed parts are here or ordered save shocks and tires.

Drives nice with some steering wobble and starts each time with full battery.

Going to strip her and re-dress this pig.

that is all...
