whats the story on the other pig in your first pic?

Restoration project of the brother of the guy who sold me my Pig. It's a 1976 and it's a beautiful wagon. He also has a very nice green 1975 FJ40 that didn't make it into any of the pics (I think). EDIT: I stand corrected. It's in the background of the 2nd photo. :-)

New pig owners

My boyfriend and I bought a '78 FJ55 to fix up and drive around. I can't wait to get started! It has some very nasty rust spots that we'll take to a shop and get fixed, but we're going to do the paintwork ourselves. I'm learning that it's hard to find parts... probably should have researched that first, but it'll just make the experience that more satisfying!

'78 is a great year

First-time pig owner

Hello all,
After lurking on this forum for years I finally came upon the perfect (for me) project 10/1970 FJ55 and pulled the trigger. I was expecting to be divorced but instead wife called it "cute"..... The body is in good shape, just some bubbling on the rockers and rust spots on LR and RR corners. It needs a lot of work but so far I've removed the PTO winch (I'll be selling soon to fund brake cylinders and I won't be using it on my way to home depot) and rack (for rust removal and repaint) and got the tailgate window working again (thanks to Gary's forum article!). My plan is to get it safely starting and stopping while keeping it as original as po$$ible with my budget. I look forward to getting a lot of advice from the community.

On a quick side note, after getting a VIN inspection at DMV a few weeks ago, I broke down when I couldn't get cruiser into gear. No less than 3 "cruiser" people stopped to offer help, including a guy who offered to go get his truck and tow me......very cool.

Great score Dannypdx!

Just picked up my first piggy. I got it for steal due to a broken steering column (buick column). As it sits now it has a chevy 350 conversion, mini axle conversion (disk up front), power steering, and a bitchin pioneer tape deck. After fixing the column I plan on cutting out all the rust and repair, paint, maybe a 2.5 or 4in lift, and give some attention to the interior. I have a pretty aggressive 60 already so the piggy will be more of expedition rig/sunday driver much like the piggy posted above... maybe slighty more trail ready though.

next to my 60 that's almost ready to hit the trail:

New Pig Owner

Just got my '73 Pig that I plan to start restoring this fall.

77k miles
F Engine
3-Speed

I bought it form the original owner and it had been sitting in a barn for the past 30 years. Needs a bit of new steel but other than it is complete.

Thanks for the welcome Bob.

As far as metal you can sort of see what I am looking at and have not gotten any metal yet for the pig.

I would like to track down some front fenders, rocker panels and the rear quarters, especially around the rear reflectors where it mounts to the frame.

The doors i have are fairly solid, so I am happy with that. I plan to weld in some steel on the back tailgate unless I find a salvaged one for the right price.

drop me a line with anything you have. THANKS!

Welcome Wisco 55!

I can't believe you bought a Pig from the original owner - that is too cool!

I just wish that barn had been kinder to the Pig...

My Piggy

To tell you guys the truth I'm a bit of a jeep nut, but some how my Toyota loving friends keep trying to convert me to Toyota, first it was a 1974 Celica, then a 1985 4x4 mini truck, and now finally a 1974 FJ55. That being said I'm in love with the piggy, and will take the best care of her.

She was found in a garage in Calgary Alberta (that's were I live) by a good friend (one of those Toyota people lol) he wanted to fix the rust and build it but didn't have the time, so I stepped in to do the work to get her back up and running. She is very clean has all of her parts right down to the tool kitt and hand crank for the engine. She just has a bit of cancer I'm cutting out and replacing with steel from two spare front fenders from another 74.

I will post some pics as soon as I figure how to do it on an iPhone or steal the GFs computer lol

New pig owner/adoptee

Hello all, No pics yet but I am in the process of being adopted by a 78 pig. My sons and I are quite excited about it. This forum was a huge help in making my decision to take the leap. It is basically stock except for the aluminum wheels. For now plans are to keep her that way and make it a daily driver. Will post some pics when she arrive at her new home which hopefully will be later this week.
