Another annoyance. The a/c seems to turn off every time the truck is turned off. Not the end of the world but when you return you have to push the button again to get uber cold air. Can't find a way around this yet.

Have you tried just keeping it on Auto?

Day 1 road trip report.

All interstate. Central Mississippi to Chattanooga. Some flat, some pretty good hills.

I ran 79mph the whole way. Average was 19.4 mpg. Not bad.

Motor. Plenty of pep with the 32s. I watched the turbo and battery all the time. Battery would only really kick in if the turbo maxed out.

It pretty much stayed in 10th unless the adaptive cruise control got low and it would kick down to 8th to catch up. If no one was k the way on long pulls it stayed in 10th.

Cloth seats are very comfortable. I’m 5’8” 175# and they feel great. My skinny ass wife likes them too.

AC vents hit right.

Only gripes so far.

They blocked the 6 o’clock spot on the steering wheel. That’s my favorite hold on long trips.

The stereo interface. Trying to figure out how best to jump from Car Play back to the XM stuff. I think I have it figured out.

Tomorrow. Backroads.

Have you used those tires previously? I'm thinking about grabbing them for my 250 when it comes in.

I have not. My buddy got some on his Tacoma and I really fell for the looks.

They are not quiet. Not loud but not quiet.

I have Recon Grapplers on my 200 and they are dead silent even at 40,000 miles.

This truck will be mostly a local 20 mile a day, no interstate commuter so the road noise won’t be an issue to my daughter

I can deal with the noise as long as it's reasonable. My KM3s made me numb to that. My current Falken AT3W are street quiet in comparison. I'm happy if it's in the middle because I love the way the mickeys look. I just don't want them to be MT noisy

Well, I can finally join the ranks of an owner capable of responding to questions in this thread.

Initial thoughts after a 7 mile drive home and a bit of tooling around are I like it quite a bit. Sitting in the driver's seat, the view and feel of driving it is remarkably similar to the new Defenders I have driven.

I am 6' 5" tall and built like an offensive lineman. My legs aren't too long (inseam is 32) and a lot of my height is virtue of torso. It's snug, but comfortable. The places I can rest my knees when I drive are in the right spots. The platform created at the top of the door card is in a perfect place for me to rest my left arm as I drive, and the center console is a nice place to rest my right arm.

I like the interior of my 1958 even more than I thought I would. All the reviews talk about hard plastics to the point where I started to worry, but I think it's great.

And the stereo isn't as bad as I had feared. Creates a decent soundstage in front of me. I may still see if there's a way to upgrade the speakers (I'm old school enough where I refuse to believe an OEM uses decent speakers) but I played one of my audiophile test tracks (Nils Lofgren - Keith Don't Go) and it sounded solid. I've got old tube amps, boutique speakers, and a vintage jazz vinyl collection at home, so I feel like I'm a little picky. And the stereo wasn't too bad.

The engine wasn't as annoying or noisy as I have read the detractors say. Seemed fine to me. Power was good. Yeah, it's noisier than I have had before, but so what. It's an engine. Glad to know it's there.

The switch quality seems pretty good too. Not sure what that 200 series owner on reddit was on about a month or so ago (I have my doubts about the authenticity of that post for other reasons).

All in all, I'm ecstatic.

The one thing that will take some getting used to (other than just the dimensions of the thing when I do thinks like park) is the steering. The steering is super smooth but with hardly any feedback.

No where close to MT loud

One more weird, odd-ass complaint.

The key. I haven't had a Toyota in a while (and the last one I had was an FJ40), but the key for this thing is totally insubstantial. I kind of want to drill a hole in it and fill it with lead shot. Feels like one of those pieces of plastic you accidentally break off of something and then hold in your hand for a minute trying to figure out what the hell you're going to do now, and right then your wife calls out to you and asks what you're doing and you don't want to admit you broke something so you just stick it in your pocket and say "nothing," but then you go inside and start googling what it was you just broke and how much it cost.

Are you talking about the key or the key fob?

It has keyless entry so you are probably never going to actually use the key — just walk up, grab the door handle, it unlocks, sit down, push the button, and go,

Key fob. I've had several vehicles that have used the key fob, but the key fob for every one of those had a little bit of heft to it.

This one is just way too light, which is ironic because it's also comparatively large.

The key fob for the 200 Series Land Cruiser was also quite light and insubstantial. So this is nothing new. The LX key fob is heavier.

I've got about 25K on a set, with one winter and three long highway trips. They are pretty smooth on the highway, great in the snow, and the best tire I've ever driven in torrential rain. I rotate every 5K and they are wearing well. I think they were a little louder than the 80K AT3's they replaced, but they haven't gotten noticeably louder.

Regarding those that feel this is a beefed up 4Runner, you're right. In a very good way!! I've owned 4Runners in the past and loved them. However, I always wanted slightly more room, slightly more luxury, and slightly more prestige. The 250 hits on all those things.

It is on par with my wife's X5 (and previous Mercedes) in terms of luxury. Some may not want that, I do. I want a plush luxurious ride even when I'm off the beaten path.

It is larger than my old 2001 4Runner (that's my most recent experience). Not a boat but just right.

Regarding the name recognition / prestige, it checks that box too. I drove it to our neighborhood club yesterday and within 30 seconds of parking, I had 3 people come up to me and ask me what it was. It stands out. The LC name recognition is real. Again, that's something I like.

I wouldn't consider slightly more room as "beefed up" and don't see any additional luxury. Being another 4R Trim seems much more accurate
