Sig updated.

ahhh, mucho mejor senor!!! Nice to see another 80 in the mix.

Now, maybe update your location under the Avatar? :flipoff2:

Gah! I’ll get it right eventually.... lol

You live in SF Bay area and coming down just for this run? Holy schmoly dude!

Not... exactly. My mom lives in Prescott, and is tagging along with me. I take her with me on off road trips when I’m there. Something to do, and I try and get down there once a year. She’s got here own FJ Cruiser, but here and her dog will be riding in the 80. Besides. Northern New Mexico is on the short list for retirement in 10. Really dig the southwest, as I spent some years living in high desert in the far northeast area of California with the Steens and the Black Rock as neighbors. My wife’s ancestors are Navajo and Apache... at least 50% the other half is filipino oddly enough.

Nice intro man, thanks for doing that. Feel free to start a new thread and introduce yourself to the group if you want.

I’m almost done rewiring it. Tub to go back on tomorrow. Trailer in one piece before the mods

Been watching this thread for a while and may be interested in tagging along if you have room. I'd be bringing my 85 4Runner and coming from San Diego area. I'd most likely break off and head west around HWY 40 or a little thereafter. I do have roots and family still living in New Mexico so I'm not that much of an outsider haha. I'm not positive I can go, but I wanted to make prior contact so I wasn't trying to crash the party last minute

Only if you bring the 4Runner. I want to see your 3RZ.

Sounds good. I'll update the list.

So any updates to the plans for this thing? Will people be meeting in ABQ on Weds and doing a caravan south? Is it every man for himself and people plan to meet at the Desert Princess?

We're getting pretty close to the trip... who's still in and who's dropping out?

I've got "CEO" approval, and can easily get the time off work.

I think I am dropping out as I’ve not spent enough time out with my new van to know what spare parts to have on hand. Enjoy! See you all at breakfast on Saturday.

Meeting place:

I was trying to come up with a place that is not stupid far from ABQ as most of us are departing after work, or after working a short day.

The place I'm thinking about at this time is this: Free Camping Near You | Go Camping for Free!. This place is less than five hours away and should be doable at the days get longer. the link above has all the info we need but if you have any questions, please ask.

This place is less than two hours away from the beginning of AZBDR trail system. Everyone can roll into camp wed night whenever they want. I'm sure there'll be a campfire going! I may have everyone's cell phone # already and will text everyone with more details on that day with last min stuff.

Comm:

Just a quick reminder, we'll be using HAM radios on this trip so please have one in your vehicle. Baefong hand held units are a favorite radio of this club and can be purchased on Amazon for less than $40. As with any hand held mobile radios, you're only limited by the stubby antenna, NOT the power output of your radio. So, if you want to hear the group more clearly and/or transmit from the back of the group to the front of the group, I suggest getting a magnetic mount antenna for your radio.

If we need to start a new thread on radios and such, let's do that instead of cluttering up this thread. @lurch @Chompers are the resident Baefong external antenna or better antenna experts!

I'll monitor our HDC frequency which is 146.400 and also the Megalink using the HAM radio. The link above mentions couple of neat camping spots that we should grab and guide others in if they're off the beaten path.

I'm open to suggestions for a meetup location as always.

Spare parts? Tire, just a tire. You're coming.

Just stumbled across HDC. My wife and two pups might join with our GX470 and venturcraft trailblazer trailer. The GX is currently pulled apart getting a bilstein 6112/5160 suspension, dual batteries, winch, drawers, and cv reboot but I can likely get it together in time. We're in Los Alamos.

Hey,

You're welcome to join us. Please introduce yourself to our club members on our main so that we get to know you a little bit! Sounds like you got quite the GX setup, looking forward to checking it out in person. Please update your signature line with your vehicle info!

Will do. Thanks for the warm welcome!

After giving it some thought, I'm going to pass on this trip. There are many places I'd like to visit this year, and I'm thinking my vacation time would be better spent on other trips.

I wish you all a safe and enjoyable journey.
