started the new truck project recently.
scored an 89 runner off craigs for 500$
it was a 3.0 auto in its previous life.
plans are the 3.4 V6, R150 5 speed an twin mini cases with 4.7s etc.

like all good builds i skip past all the boring grinding stuff and spare any pics of the poor old IFS lying lifeless on the cold concrete...

on with it

the shackle tubes were pretty easy really.
1 3/4 hole saw and lots of wd40. a little patience helps.
i pulled a measurement from the floor to get the last two holes, the jigs get you in the neighborhood, but nothing makes up for a tape and good eye.
i found a piece of tube that worked out sweet for a jig for the tubes.
got some 3x5x 3/16 box to build hangers

Is this the rig you were looking at putting an 80 series axle under?

showing hanger mock up.
shackle angle check,
hangers measure 45 3/8" eye to eye front to back.
going to use a 4.5" eye to eye shackle.
went ahead and welded it in after measuring 27 times and practicing a bunch of beads.

um, its hard to get that torch into some spots and the flaming hot magma on my chest makes me mad......

but the joys of a project well done...at least it went sort of to plan yesterday.

today i wanted to put some wheels on the front, but came up short on a couple trunion bearings and u-bolts

Wow!!! Coming along nice man!!! That's gonna be sick!

Wow! that is impressive, thanks for sharing your project, very cool.
It looks like you have it knocked, but if you could use an extra set of hands PM me.

well started phase 2 this weekend.

got the 3.4 on the stand and the 4runner rolling in the driveway.
pulled the pan on the 3.4 to do the pan swap...
...............fxxxing motor is bad. sludged up like something out of a bad video.
rear main bearing is wasted, the others are not happy. rod bearing look ok for a 200k+ motor.

crank needs mains polished at least, hoping i can get away with some new bottom end bearings and not have to bore the block and get pistons.

the whole thing needs to be hot tanked.
will get pics up later.
:(

anyway, here are a few phase two pics
runner standing on its new front legs
motor awaiting ruining my day

so like i said, i was pulling the pan for inspection and came across this goodness.
the second pic is the back of the oil pump, that cavity was full up.
