It's time to do this again! We're gonna gather at Kenny & Lydias barn to welcome anybody who is interested in coming to see what we're all about. There is NO requirement to be a member of ONSC to attend. We invite the curious, the new, and the old to come hang out for an evening or the whole weekend. Come see why people from across the country love coming to our events! The venue is private property near Uwharrie National Forest that's pretty much central to NC.
NOTE: If you arrive on Thursday, March 6 you might be the only person there and the barn might not be prepped yet, meaning you'll be primitive camping without running water or electric. We'll do our best to be prepared; stay tuned for updates on that much closer to the event.
We'd appreciate a head's up reply post to let us know you're coming so we can have a fairly accurate head count for Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast (all other meals are on your own - bring it/cook it or venture 20 minutes to the nearest towns). No need to stay the entire time but there will be plenty of camping space. Saturday evening and night is the big hurrah with a provided dinner. The barn itself is huge and makes great shelter in the event of rain, plus it has multiple cast iron stoves, lots of 120v outlets, and a stove and running water. Facilities include a pit toilet and a portable-jon (which should stay clean for at least for first day!).
The Uwharrie trails will still be closed for the winter but plenty of time can be killed hanging at the fire or driving to Troy for coffee or Albemarle for whatever or just hanging in camp chatting up members while drooling over trucks or getting ideas for our own junk!
When:
March 6-9, 2025
Where:
The Barn - (GPS brings you close: 1139 River Road, Troy, NC, then look for the old school car dealer flags and a sign)
What:
Weekend of friends and camping, pot luck on Friday night, club-provided meal Saturday, trail volunteer work TBD
Cost:
Zero
Who?
You, your significant other, your friends, your well behaved kids and dogs and your Toyota Truck! (not required, but encouraged)
Details:
The barn is a large open structure with limited indoor sleeping areas (if you'd like to use these, just ask). Typically folks camp in their trucks, tents or campers around the barn. There are closer spots that will likely be noisy as well as several secluded areas off the beaten path for those that prefer some quiet/privacy. The club will rent a porta potty, and there is a pit toilet. NO SHOWER on site. If you need to shower, group camp is a short drive away. The barn has hot water, gas for cooking, fridges, and lots of outlets for crockpots. There are a couple of wood stoves and a large firepit that will be burning for the weekend.
Thursday - Early arrivals are welcomed starting late afternoon.
Friday - Pot Luck Dinner. Grill/Smoke/Crockpot or just stop by the Bojangles or Food Lion and grab something to throw on the table.
Saturday - Club will provide dinner - come hungry! - Club will also hold our brief annual meeting and welcome new and re-elected Board of Directors as well as new business.
Sunday - Club provides a big breakfast - biscuits/gravy/bacon/eggs - please stick around to eat and help clean up
Hope to see you there!
Please post any questions you have, and indicate if you're coming - but most importantly what are you cooking?
See you there!
