They're measured as a pair - so a set of 4 - 3 ton jackstands can hold up to 6 tons.

Unless you're upgrading to a Unimog, 3 tons should be fine.

That said, if it's only slightly money more for the 6 ton ones, and there's not a big disadvantage due to their size (sometimes bigger ones may be harder to find space for) might as well have the added capacity.

You have to weigh:

Breaking the bank...

vs.

Breaking

When we're talking about fuel pumps, headlamp bulbs, etc.... its a different story than something that if it fails will kill you.

That said, harborfreight has cheap jack stands...

I've only had one bad set of jack stands. AC Delco. Came with a little floor jack. Got it when I was 17 or so. Still have the jack - it's garbage but fine for a backup. The jack stands were tossed when one of them basically was crushed completely when my suburban rolled into it.

Here you go... they still sell it! Sears.com

All that said, this looks like a pretty good deal considering the Harbor Freight stuff is $25... and this is $30

My wife lifts too :D - she's a strong lady.

Oh I've seen the Instagram videos and completely understand why you do what she tells you :)

Well, I don't mind paying more for something that will last longer. I just wasn't sure what a good floor jack would be.
Lots of folks have the HF 3-ton. Usually $20 for 2. the HF 6-ton are $40 for 2. I've had the small ones for years, and they fit easier into the truck when I travel (yes, I've needed them on/off road), but I want the larger ones for peace of mind. With 315's now, I'm usually on the highest notch.

A thing that people probably don't pay much attention to is the footprint of the stand, especially if using the factory bottle jack under an axle while wanting the stands as far outboard as possible. It's a nonissue if lifting from a floor jack.

Power steering isn't required as long as you stick with appropriate tires and don't put something goofy wide on it.
I'm assuming you will drive this around Charlotte and not reserve it only for trundling around an Iowa cornfield; power brakes would be a good upgrade.

Thanks. I found some 6 ton on Amazon for $40, but they look huge. If 3 ton will work I will probably just do that.

Any jacks you would recommend?

If anything I want to find some Michilen XML 36x9x16s to put on it. But right now leaving what's on it.

Correct, driving around Charlotte.

I use the factory bottle jack unless I'm at work where there's a floor jack of some sort. Sorry, no recommendations.

I guess I could use that too....I just can barely get the wheels off the floor with mine. I will try again.

They're measured as a pair - so a set of 4 - 3 ton jackstands can hold up to 6 tons.

Each individual stand has rating on it then when added up equals the capacity of the pair. They're not measured as a pair. A set of 4 - 3 ton jack stands would be 4x3= 12 tons of capacity. A pair of 6 ton jack stands does not mean two three ton jack stands, it means two 6 ton jack stands.

For example, I have a pair I picked up from autozone a long time ago. They're sold as 6 ton jack stands and the capacity is listed as 6 tons per stand, aka each stand can support 6 tons:
