Looks possibly like there is a little seepage going on. @NCFJ and @lt1fire had mentioned in an earlier post about leaving the inner oil seal out just a bit so it rides on the axle shaft in a different spot and I think as our vehicles age that needs to happen more often than not. @jfz80 was the first to tell me about doing that this past week and that's what he did on his front end rebuild.

Interesting. LexTech did the job 2 years ago so I figured the 80 would die before I ever had to worry about it again. When I make a right turn, I feel a thump from the forward left side. Same thump from the forward right when making a left turn (this one just started happening). Until now, I thought my body mounts just needed replacing... I checked the knuckles because I heard they could be the culprit. They're not as shiny as they used to be and I can definitely see the seepage. Did Jason and Al do this because the axle shaft is getting worn down? It would make sense...

It's hard to really tell by pics. It does look like a little weeping. That said if it has sat un driven for a while in the Charlestown heat the grease in the knuckle could separate and the liquid come past the felts easier.

Better test would be to open up the knuckle and look at the grease. Or shortcut would be to stick a zip tie down in the inspection plug and see if it came out smelling or looking like 90 weight

My long side axle(driver) was the one with a little seepage and had a decent groove in it so I decided to under drive the seal and leave it proud of the seating surface. Or you could cut the seal and overdrive it.

Did you check your front sway bar? I was tinkering under the truck yesterday (pretending to know) grabbed the sway to push myself out and "clunk", that sucker is loose. I can move it side to side and around. Ordered new bushings right away.

Grease it and drive it. A little damp but nothing alarming.

Ok, we've been hanging out a little too much lately because you're starting to sound a little like me lol. As long as you don't pick up on the accent you should be ok.

This is awesome for those of us with aftermarket cable throttles / clutch cables / any type of cable:

My kids were asking me about my preference. I said, "I don't know boys, punch me in the face or kick me in the nuts."

The last thing we need is a political discussion.

Instead, let's all watch a video of something that really, really matters. Darth Vader, on a unicycle, playing the bagpipes:

And on another note, a serious question about FJ40's.

We saw the crap FJ40 that was in Greensboro, that had been botched together in Costa Rica. One thing that I remember about it was that they attached the curved TOYOTA emblem on the back with what appeared to be drywall screws. My TOYOTA emblem has no holes on either end, I assume it's glued.

That leads me to this: A 1976 'restored' beauty that's on cars.com It would appear that the rear emblem is attached by pop rivets?

So what's correct? And I assume there was a switchover at some point?

Even though the CCOT pics are of aftermarket parts you get the idea .... The first image is the wrong year for you but shows the way tabs are mounted on the back of the emblem.
