Nice Brad.

Here is one I'm willing to let go. Not RR grade but a nice working piece.

I have an Elgin that was my grandfathers early 1900s my mother had it cleaned and repaired for my 16th (1976) birthday. Still works well has a train scene engraved on the case

@lowtops Always wanted one, never bought one. I should start shopping. And I love the large numbers on yours.

ihc185.com The MUD for watch collectors. They are little more "refined" over there, but it is a great resource. To get to the good info or buy anything from members you have to join for $12.00. Not a lot of traffic over there but those who do post know their $&!#.

I would call that a "time piece", not a watch. But I am a watch snub. It is beautiful, regardless, great find. Ball is another brand that used to make RR chronos, great mechanical movements. I think the phrase "train on the ball" came from that, some lure I read somewhere.

Ball is literally the gold standard for antique pocket watches (time pieces ). Mr. Ball set the standards for RR grade watches and it seems every watch manufacturer made a watch with his name on it. These are all high quality watches and you will be hard pressed to find one for under $500.
On ebay there is an average of 30 Ball's for sale at any one time vs. thousands of other individual brands.

Rice, That's a nice watch! Surprising that it is not RR grade. I'm not sure why it isn't, something else to research. I'm looking to surprise my Dad with a watch made the year he was born, 1935. If yours was a little newer I would be very interested.

If you get a chance post some pics. I would love to see it.

Here is an interesting story about Abe Lincoln's pocket watch:

I'm shooting from the hip here but I'm guessing this watch was below the "standard" size, i.e. a size 12 rather than a 16 or 18.

You are exactly right. I did not catch that it was a 12s. You're a good shot from the hip.

Anyone ever watch "Scrapheap Challenge" and the US remake "Junkyard Wars"?

Forgot all about those shows, been rewatching them on Youtube here and there. I wonder - for those of you that have cable TV - do they make a show like that anymore?

Loved junkyard wars. We could put a hell of an Onsc team together

Glenn Frey died today

What a talent, just watched a special about him not too long ago.

Saw them first in the late 70s

Damn! 2016 has started out as a crappy year for famous names and funerals. This bums me out.

I am thinking more like this

And this

This brought the house down Joe Walsh and Don Felder were over the top and the rest of the band just sat back and watched during their solo.

man, that takes me back to high school...
hate to hear about this

Went to a great restaurant tonight with another couple. I ordered pheasant. Damn thing was as big as a chicken. I decided to be civil and only eat what I could easily get with a fork & knife. That left over 3/4 of my plate uneaten. Had it boxed up, then I proceeded to watch the clock and count down the minutes until I'd be home to ravage the remainder. Finally got our guests to rise from the table, we got up, I grabbed the box, turned to leave, then dropped the damn thing on the floor. It hit the ground, opened up and my pheasant rolled out of the box onto the floor. Two inches. That's right, it rolled only two freaking inches onto the floor. My entire day was ruined. Hell...maybe my life, for all I know.

What should we take away from all this? That's why they should put your box of food in a bag. I also considered this a sign to eat like a pig to avoid this entire situation altogether in the future Goodbye, $28. We hardly knew ye. (And...... arthritis sucks.)
