On my FJ62, The negative battery cable is looking like it is deteriorating and I want to replace it before I start having all sorts of electrical problems.

The cable starts at the battery and then goes to a bracket (bolted to the fender) right next to the battery.
Then the cable continues underneath the ac compressor.
I just can’t locate where it attaches and what it attaches to and how to get access to it.

Has anyone replaced the negative battery cable (on the 62) and it so - where does it go?

Not sure where exactly but the ground lead on the battery should connect to the body, the engine, and the frame. Location in those places isn’t critical as long as it’s good cable with clean contact and routed away from spinning objects.

Terminates on the motor mount bracket under the a/c compressor.

Ok - thx for the replies.
From underneath I can trace the cable with my hand to the area beneath the ac compressor.
I just wasn’t sure if that’s where it terminates.

It is extremely tight under there and it doesn’t feel like I’ll be able to get a socket in there to loosen the nut.
Do I really have to remove the ac compressor just to replace this cable? Again, this is on the 62.

Pick another bolt in another location. It really doesn't matter.

The original termination location bolted to the engine bracket which obviously is bolted to the block. The block is bolted to the bellhousing and the starter is bolted to that.
Run your new wire to the block. The wire is so honkin huge to deal the starter draw.

I purchased the battery cable kit and it is high quality stuff.

I am going to reroute the cable that runs from the negative battery terminal and terminates at the motor mount bracket underneath the AC compressor because i don't want to have to remove the AC compressor and power steering pump.

I found a location on the driver's side towards the top side of the front. It is the solid steel bracket that my air pump "used" to be attached.
There are two 19 mm bolts that attach this bracket to the block - I think.

By the way - the cable length reaches this location.

Is there any reason you can think of why I shouldn't terminate the cable from the negative battery terminal here?

CORRECTION - I don't think my old air pump was mounted to that bracket.
I think that bracket is where the old "hook" was attached for removing the engine.
Seems like that should be a suitable location for the negative battery cable.
What do you think?

2nd CORRECTION - that bracket in the pic is the air pump bracket.
So I went ahead and terminated the battery cable there at the 14 mm bolts that used to attach the “engine lift” hook.

Anyone see any problem with this as a ground point to replace the engine mount bolt under the AC compressor?

Not at all...I think you're good.

I think you are over analyzing this. I don't think any of the ground connections on my 22RE, or 2FE, are in factory locations. Life is golden as long as the body, frame, and engine are tied together.

Excellent!
Thank you guys - I always appreciate the expert suggestions!

I ended up scratching my head this on this one after acquiring new cables myself. I ended up attaching it to one of the bolts on a bracket for the AC Compressor. If better minds can chime in. She starts up so I think it works, but as always, looking for the optimal solution...

Negative cable is yellow in the photo attached.
