Got home from a 2week shift to find presents waiting, new body mounts and a box of Toyota parts😊
Last picture is the old front body mount vs the new Energy mount. The old mount did have another piece of rubber to make up the height but it’s well worn after 53 years as @firemanj92 said. Thanks again for the recommendation

Fitted the new bumperettes and been modifying the handbrake to use the under dash lever and the late model rear drum set up. With some advice from a mate l decided to make a few brackets to support the cable and made it adjustable. This way l can use factory parts and not rely on a custom made handbrake cable, handbrake works good. Slowly finishing off all the small things, taking it out for a few shakedown runs with the Mrs to sort out a carby flat spot issue. Played with the jet sizes when l rebuilt it but not sure what’s going on, further investigation needed.

After a few test drives the fumes are quite noticeable as the exhaust comes out the rear under the rear doors. Looking to reposition the exhaust tailpipe to come out the LHR corner. Should l be looking at going more straight out the side behind the rear tyres or at an angle with the pipe protruding out a few inches to help with the fumes.
Factory exhaust below

My exhaust which exists just below the rear bumprette.

Looking at this as a possible position

Thinking more out the side like the factory, what’s the best position for no fumes.
Thanks

So come up with this position, hopefully keep all the fumes out🤞

Well done on the exhaust. Let us know how it works out. My 40 has a similar exit position but no Downward angle so I’m curious to see if it helps with fumes.
Mine isn’t terrible but you still smell it occasionally and I wonder about the kids in the back smelling it.

Thanks @clrussell l had a left over 90 and 45 degree bends in 2 1/2” from my exhaust l built for the HJ47 so they worked out well.
Will update once l put a few miles on the old girl. Still like to make a better mount for the exhaust at the rear, not sure what the factory had.

So after a test drive with some fresh fuel, old fuel drain from tank which l suspect was many years old. She runs and drives well and no exhaust fumes evident while driving.
Gotta be happy about that👍
Fitted the original bumper back on which l had on the old HJ47 but first had to do some straightening up as it was a bit knocked around. Now need to decide whether l get it powder coated black or silver to match the bumperettes on the rear🤔

Fixing up some wiring and small stuff, trying to get the temp gauge sorted and found it goes full hot, even when disconnected. Is this how it works or do l have another issue?
I found a post where someone mentions his operates like this and adjusts down to running temp, seems strange🤷‍♂️
Been playing around with the gauge and probably dated it trying to make it work like my later HJ47.

I think off it goes past H in the off key position. Safety fail position - ie you need to watch and smell for over heat indicators

It seems this is how the 71 models operate

Wait, those bumperettes are still available new? Would you happen to have a part number?

@msapers l bought mine back in Dec 23 but still showing they are available.
Part number for bumpers
52152-60011 RH rear
52153-60011 LH rear

After some pics from a mate with a 71 l changed the route to the original spot. Had to remove the dash vent to put it in the brackets. Looks a bit better higher up in the dash. Replaced the brake light switch with a spare. Changed the position on the ammeter wires as they seem to rub on the brackets behind the cluster.
