Oh, and we pick up the Ford 2N tomorrow afternoon.

You suck too.

This thread is worthless without pics of the chick driving the tractor with the new radiator.

Dang. I just might pull this off and have the tractor going in time for the parade. I'm lobbying the boss to let me drive. :steer:

You'd look good pulling a hay wagon with a tractor--you should get a corncob pipe or something. Careful though: it's a ton of fun. I used to drive the tractor (a relatively new Zetor) pulling the wagon occasionally at the youth camp for a while. I don't know why it's so much fun, but like plowing snow: it just is.

The Ford is now in our possession. It's a project, big time. My objective is to get it running first, then I'll work on the cosmetics.

they are only like $5, or $2 for a cheap one. a Missouri Meerscham is the best one to get...oh wait, we were talking about tractors, sorry I got side tracked.:D

Smoking is bad for you. Both in houses and in the lungs.

The Farmall is just about back together. Radiator is in and full. Steering shaft with new bearing and seal is in. Replaced all the zerk fittings so I could grease the dang thing up. Gave it an oil change, but couldn't find a filter. I'll order online and change later. Pulled the plugs, cleaned, and checked the gap. Plug #2 was very fouled and carbon'd. I suspect it has a ring issue. Installed new plug wires.

Right after lunch I turned on the gas, and to my joy it cranked over on the forth try without ether. WOOHOO!

What's left? The cowl attached to the old radiator with 3/8" course thread bolts. The new radiator is fine thread. I need to get four new bolts. I didn't replace the lower radiator hose mostly because the original design has been PO'd. I'm going to see if the original part is still available from Case. Last, I need to install a kill switch on the magneto.

I won't be driving the tractor in the parade. :censor:

The Ford 2N received a bath today. It was ugly. I sprayed it with the pressure washer, then sprayed it with engine degreaser and let it soak. Stan stopped by in the afternoon to deliver more parts for the Farmall and washed the tractor again with the pressure washer. It's still not great, but clean enough to work on. I noticed yesterday that it's a flat head. Cool. Need to do some homework on this baby.

It appears that while the spark plugs work, they are not correct for this engine (Autolite 388 installed, Autolite 3116 needed). Next week I'll get the correct plugs and hopefully make things easier to start. I also found a company reproducing the lower radiator hose. It's been ordered. I decided not to rebuild the starter and just ordered a new one.

The Farmall with the wagon has been delivered to the Fairgrounds. Linda, the guy driving the tractor, and I are gathering at 6:30am to caravan over to the fairgrounds to get the tractor+wagon ready, then I'm driving with the truck+trailer to the end of the parade route to stage for the return home.

Gonna be fun.

The boss has instructed me not to get the Ford running. We can replace the tires to make it look like a usable piece of equipment. I will comply with her instruction ... at least while I'm on the City's clock. :grinpimp:

I guess it's good you got it running. you couldn't count on those horses anymore...:flipoff2: sorry, I couldn't resist.

What you should do is find a Fordson tractor website, and then tell those guys that the city of Albuquerque is being anti-Ford. Hopefully they'd write enough angry letters that you'd get to spiff it up all the way...

Hee hee. Might have something better.

Word went up the food chain that we were having a "float" in the State Fair parade. My boss told the Zoo Director, who told the Cultural Services Director, who told the Mayor. Mayor came down to the farm a few day ago for a look at the tractor. Seems he used to drive a Farmall as a child. Even new the difference between the H and M models.

Mayor was in the parade yesterday. Came by again and took another look at the Farmall as it was getting ready.

We just might have a friend in a very high place that might have a warm spot in his heart for old iron that might be able to turn a few screws on getting the Ford going.

:hmm:

Wait, did I just say that out loud?

Tomorrow I'm going to jumper the starter and see if it turns.

:grinpimp: Starter turned the engine on the 2N. Now to start nibbling away at the little things.

I went in today to work on the Ford 2N. What a project. It needs everything PM related. Plus, the electrical system has been PO'd. Fortunately, this is not a difficult machine.

So where is it at. I pulled the sediment bowl off and cleaned it up, and bent a new tank to carb fuel line. The inside of the tank was a mess with this nasty brownish sludge. I thought for a long time on what to dump in there to dissolve the stuff. This was one of those out-of-the-box thoughts. I new acid wouldn't work and if you go online that is the traditional answer. But what about something caustic? Something like .... wait for it ... drain cleaner? Good ol' Liquid Plumber! Don't laugh. It worked and worked great. The only thing left was rust which the muriatic acid is working on now.

So, by the end of the week the fuel system will be clean from the tank to the carb. The carb will be next. It also needs coolant hoses bad.

Here are a few pics. It received new tires on Friday.

I've already been told at one of the Ford Tractor boards that the sway bars are on incorrectly.

Looks good Jon. Thanks for the pics and the update.

You could probably sell tickets on here for guys who would pay to take it for a spin! I'm first in line.
