dashbox is an option. it doesnt' need a dashpad to run and drive tho!
 
It already runs and drives..... Don't you understand that I have to have 19 different "mini" projects in the air at one time to be happy?? I need to be working the issues out in my head for all these projects, so when the time comes, I have the stuff to do them.

On the moving issue, I need to get the front end panels all lined up so I can put the latches on the hood, and then off to the DMV on a nice day..... oh, and it took me three days to find the bag with the steering wheel nut and horn button.:bang: Finally found them in the glove box. Anyway, thought that was kind of important to use.

had an issue when I tried to install a rear tire carrier. the original hinges off the 68 were frozen, so I grabbed a set from an early seventy's. the body side of the hinge was identical length; however the tire carrier side is about a half inch off. looks like I'm going to have to fab this up.

So, here is the list:

Brakes - great.
Clutch - great.
Engine - good. Idle really nice
Tranny - great - (I need practice on column shift)

Only issue is that we had a small gas leak from the bowl, but a little tightening of the screws and it disappeared. Filled with coolant, and no leaks!

Thanks go out to everyone that lent a hand over the past couple years putting her together. I know that I will forget some, but special thanks to my main bud, Rob for all the time he showed up after a call for a "quick" project. All this would not of happened without Erik, Colin, Rob, and my family for supporting my addiction.

Lots of little things to do still; however, I guess Ol' Blue needs a new name now!

Shakedown this next week with a trip over to get it legal!

Not saran wrap, but that packing wrap you use for palletizing stuff. We called it stretch wrap years ago. That is what you see on the ends. You can pick up 4" wide rolls at home depot back in their packing stuff for $5.

If I were to do it again, I would tape up and protect the edges from overflowing glue and glue the inside of the form, not the old dash.

It is 4 days later now, and still have not unwrapped it yet. Giving it plenty of time to firm up, as almost everyone warned me on MUD.
 
Few setbacks.....

First we have an exhaust leak on the butterfly plate on the exhaust manifold. Research shows that I need to remove the plate, and replace with a stainless steel bolt with copper gaskets on both sides....

Second we have a fuel leak at the carb. Thought the leak was gone, but ended up we were out of gas, so that is why leak stopped! I think I need to replace the float valve, so I will see if I have another. I think I replaced this before, so not sure that I have another one. May be time to throw hands up and send it to JIMC for rebuild.

Also noticed that my u bolts on the rear springs are not quite long enough, so need to order some of those. Must have forgot to add to the "do later" list.

Bummer, but small stuff.
 
I probably have some u bolts. Or the spring shop in the other thread makes em while u wait. Bob likes cruisers and im sure i can find a picture of him riding shotgun in my 40 at deer camp.

I just spent the past 3 hours of my life reading and drooling over your adventure. In four months I will be moving out west and the minute I figure out what garage is mine the 40 is getting stripped. I learned so much throughout this thread and your rig looks amazing!!

I'm sure I'll be referencing this over the next two years quite often!! Congrats!

Hey Kelly ... I am starting to build up my arsenal prior to starting my full resto so I don't hit as many brick walls and just have big speed bumps ... Part of that arsenal is going to be a new air compressor to do sanding, sand blasting, and spraying. I am have been shopping at the local hardware stores including the big chains and EVERY model that isn't 3+ HP and 60+ gal is saying don't use for anything involving automotive restoration.

I guess its more of a "how long" are you going to be doing a specific task and sanding and blasting are long jobs. No one at any store was able to me why the smaller compressors .. 30 - 60 gal kobalt .. were not recommended by the manufacture to sandblast or even DA sanders.

I would like to get a 30 gal and still be able to use it for everything ... I just don't know if I'd be wasting my money.

Give me your wisdom please!!
 
Mine keeps up with two da's running all day long. Chain store compressors are for tires. Volume is the key. That being said most have painted with a small conpressor. I would stay away from the direct drive style tho.

Its not really about the tank size, but more about the volume of air the compressor will deliver at a given PSI. Things like sandblasters and autobody tools require a lot of voulme. here is a link to a nice list I found Air Tools and Air Consumption the main point is if you run the compressor non stop for an extended time it wont last long.
