Im with rob. You have primer and sealer on the holes. Suspend it from them

Gonna have to be one hellofa wire. That split hood is heavy duty!!! But I agree with you. I am thinking about some 3/16 steel rod.

Bent some steel up this morning to hold the hood. Some pieces off an old oven rack.... recycle!!

Wet sanded the hood to 600 grit, so it is ready for sealing tonight. Want to add that I used a new sanding sponge as my old one fell apart in my hands. (3m pad about 17 years old) I got this one with rounded edges and hard inner portion. It really was worth the extra $$. awesome.

Color and clear tomorrow after the meeting!

Then you come grab my cab right? Thought you volunteered to paint mine? Or did I dream that up? Just kidding keep up the good work. You might just beat me to completion yet!

Question- should I make rubber gaskets to go between all the hinges on the backdoors and the body panels?

Were not there originally. Put some vaseline between the panels while you line them up and bolt em down. Yes I read that trick not out of my brain. There were rubber gaskets below hood hinges and that was about it.

Started installing the rear barn doors, and they will not close without rubbing where the lip overlaps the tub. When I look at the SOR book, it appears that there should be some sort of gasket under the body side of the hinge. Looks like I need about 1.5-2mm thick to give me a small gap for the weatherstripping. Headed to Home Depot to see if I can find some rubber that thick. Thanks for the vasoline trick.... makes sense...

got some color on the hood...

Did you find a gasket? In the past I have used old bycycle intertube for small rubber gaskets

Hanna Rubber in downtown KC, MO is a great place to find rubber and seals for your back doors. They have a scrap room where what is scrap to them may as well be Sam's club volumes to me. I've never paid more than $20 for what I needed. You just have to get there during weekday business hours.

Great idea for a thin gasket!! I might do that on the door side.

I put in a 1.25mm gasket and it was not enough yet.:bang:I actually need a larger gasket to space it out farther. I found some thick hard rubber scraps in my pile of parts, so going to try those out.

Cheers

how do you like these apples

Wanted to thank Mr. Walls for the bike tube idea. They worked great on the thin pieces.

Doors look awesome.

got the bezel painted

Really debated on the bezel color, and did not like the black bezels in the past. My vote was for pewter, but the rest of the family voted black. Since I was spraying blitz black anyway, it got shot. Good news was that family helped prep the piece.

Also, a few more pics

Other progress... hood on -- but need to pull passenger side fender forward 1/2 inch, so have lots of work to do on that.

Scott (soonerfan) gave me a great reference for windshield. Guy cut a new one and had it installed in a couple hours. $100 and a little care package.

dash pad

So, in hindsight, I wish that I ripped off the dashpad mounts and filled the holes, but here I am.

So, I bought a "skin" to go over the dash pad, but my original pad is in bad shape.

The nicer one in the photo is from a mid 70's cruiser, that might get put into duty here. It looks like all the bolts line up.
