How many miles on tranny....
what are your conclusions that tranny blew....these trannys are supposively built to last the life of your cruiser.

I saw a near new(10kmiles)one on here the other day. I think it was in the part out section. It was a factory replacement. Are you sure it is toasted? Could just be a solenoid or something easy to fix. The trannies are pretty much bullet proof on these things. What is going on with it?

I think this did it in. It looks like he has over 200k miles on the 80 also. He may have toasted it.

That may be pushing the limits of the 80 for towing. Mark's4WD down under does mofify the stock tranny and valve body for extreme towing capacities in the outback. I think this would classify as extreme. They mod the the valve body for more lockup pressure. Plus they add lockup to third gear. Stock is only 4th. Plus they mod the clutches so several more plates can be added. They do have dealers here in the US. But they do not come cheap.

ask me to send you a 5spd conversion from the middle east :p...

That sucks but i will be going that route if mine gives in

I'd get a factory rebuilt one from Toyota. Rumor is, they often ship a brand new tranny. I remember thinking that the price is good on the factory unit and you don't need to bother with an unknown.

I have a good auto transmission for sale I`d let go cheap if your interested. It came out of my 1996 LX450 when I did the v8 swap. Id like it out of my garage :D. Email me if your interested

This.

Unless I'm misremembering Beno's post.

So, what would it take to get one of those?

 ASking very nicely. please send one my way. :)

Open offer?

Haha, i was sort of messing :p

It costs 4-5K for a complete conversion installed here, would cost the same shipped to the US (substituting labour for shipping).

I'm not sure if i would want to take the risk of shipping a conversion, wouldn't wanna deal with any in-op components or issues but if you guys are really interested i can take a look and maybe ship one off to my US home and try it out.

What would you need apart from the tranny/center diff, ecu, harness, pedal, slave cyl, clutch etc...?

My bad. I got my mates down under confused. I meant Rodney at Wholesale Automatics not Marks's4WD.
