It has been a while since I disassembled this motor and I have since added an oil cooler with a provision for a sending unit, but I noticed I have a threaded boss (1/8 BSPT) just in front of the block drain. Did the '76 2F have the sender on the driver's side? I can't think of what else it could be.

Ed,

The oil pressure sending unit should thread into that aft bolt in the oil cooler (hollow mounting bolt). I don't see the threaded hole in yours.

The threaded boss on the driver's side of the engine may have originally been used for EGR cooler mounting. I think my CA '78 also had a support bolted there for the stock headpipe.

Nice looking engine, by the way.

I have a new bolt if needed ($4.05 shipping if needed) heater parts??;) Will need to reuse your copper gasket and O ring and sending unit threads in.

Some other versions are at the bottom of the filter adapter and these did not have the cooler I believe.....Coolers were post 78?

The one on the oil cooler is visible in that second pic. It is at the base of the oil filter mount. I have another cooler that has the one in the bolt. Originally thought to use one for the OEM gauge and the other for the mechanical.

I just went out and checked, Spot and you are correct, it is just a blind threaded boss. Kinda glad, because I have a header and the oil sender is all but impossible to access when the header is installed.

Shane, thanks for the offer, but I do have that bolt. I don't know when the coolers were available, but they can be retrofitted to any '74F and all 2F engines.
I "temporarily" mounted the humongous fuel filter I made out of an oil filter mount, and I'm a little concerned about space. I'll have to see what fits best and where.

Thanks all,

Ed

Shane,

I'm pretty sure that California trucks got the oil cooler in '76. Don't know about other locations/models.

I'm sure you are correct. I have not alot of time with pre 1979 models but I thought I read someplace................but one thing is for sure it always changes.

My truck is a 75, engine is 6/76, spotcrusier is correct, oil pressure sender goes in the rear most bolt in the cooler, which should be threaded, and the driver side blind threaded hole is for the EGR cooler support, should be a couple of them, but like everybody has figured out, even though these beasts are very much alike they are also very different.

My oil sender is on drivers side of 2f. No oil cooler. That has to be a change they made sometime in 76.

AFAIK, all the F motors had the sender in the same place, on the driver's side, even the '74 F 1.5
The 2Fs all had them on the pass side, some on the oil filter mount, some on the oil filter mount on the cooler, and some on the cooler via the threaded bolt.
This motor did not originally have a cooler, just the filter mount tapped for the sender.

oil pressure sender size

what is the size of the sender that screws into the oil cooler on the passenger side of 2Fs? (mines a 4/1976).

thanks!

Exactly what I have found.

oil pressure sender is a tapered pipe thread that is 1/8"-28 BSPT.

2F's after mid february 1976 had the sender on the oil filter base. prior to, and with all F motors, it is located on the DS of the block, just forward and slightly lower than the block coolant drain

i think 1/8bspt

1/8 BSPT
