Thought: read & follow the instructions for best results.You know I always thought I was using RTV the proper way it was intended. Until a friend of mine read the back of the package. What? Read the instructions? Never!
He stated the proper way was to make a bead tehn install the part and only hand tighten the bolts down to align the two pieces then let it cure and then come back and torque it down.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Ditto, I have a rubber gasket on my oil drain plug and it's never leaked. Actually, I think it's a rubber o-ring from my household plumbing bucket. I have an 1981 BJ42, so maybe the oil pan is a different shape? Anyhow, my two cents worth.If rubber is good enough for the oil filter which IS under pressure - It should be fine for the drain plug which is not.
