Yup. Mine measures 8" and comes flush with the cup holder on each side. I could not go any wider in the 40.

True. Sorry @joyRidaz - I stuffed it between my aftermarket seats and it barely fit. That 10" console was "designed in" when I built my seat mounts. At the end of the day, I shouldn't have... 40's just too narrow. Couple of inches makes a huge difference.

Found a 2004 4Runner with 125k. V8 4wd Limited and the lady said she would take $9,000. Needs to have the timing belt done so really $10k after factoring that in. Thoughts?

It's really only 10K if you take to the dealer - right - if it's like the 100 series. You can buy the whole she-bang oem parts for less the $200 if you do yourself - and you seem a lot more mechanically inclined than I........

Don't make me laugh!!! I take things apart and when they get put back together I still have screws and other parts leftover. Haha.

The V8 is an interference engine and the V8 4Runner is full time 4WD. In my opinion, that's why they're usually cheaper than V6 4Runners.

A good point. One reason why timing belt on my 3.4 liter is pretty much on the back burner, i.e. I'll fix it when it breaks.

I have seen this guy around.... lives a few doors down from a client and always spied the turbo badge. Seems like a fair price range.

1986 Toyota 4runner

Needs a manual transmission and a new steering wheel, but it looks super clean!! Wonder how big that guy had to be to need to cut off the lower half of the steering wheel to be able to get in.

So should I have hold out for a V6?

The 4.7 is a great motor. I wouldn't let a belt, and the necessary work, scare you away from it. I had an 03 with the V8 that was, and still is, a great truck. Toyota put the 4.7 th the GX,LX, T4R, Tundra, 100 series, and Sequoia. If I was looking at a 4th gen I would prefer the V8. IMHO it has more usable power and the difference in towing is pretty significant. When I had my 03 service done it was $624 with dealer parts and labor, it was 5 years ago though.

Those first gen 4RNRs are pretty tight, that is why I sold my 88. I just got tired of folding myself in half to get in and out.

4.7L timing belt was around $600 for our LX470 at Toyota Techs in Fort Mill a little over a year ago. I like the 4.7 in our LX a lot. It's a keeper for sure.

What scares me away from the 4th gen 4runners is those ugly squared-off fender flares. Talk about homely! I'm not a 4runner guy though so I guess it's kinda like picking your favorite football team based on their uniforms. Don't mind me. I'm just blabbering.

I've got a 1st gen 4r (1988) that I'll be posting for sale soon. Color is medium blue metallic, with black roof. Rust free body, 22re, lce header, magnaflow and dynomax exhaust, heavy duty springs with slightly cranked torsions up front, bilsteins all the way around. sr5 interior and gauges, OEM vinyl floor under the carpet. clarion dvd/nav head unit with kenwood speakers in the doors, and 6x9's in the factory location. doors have been insulated on outer door skin and inner door skin, and cargo area has been insulated as well. bedliner spray of some sort on the cargo floor as well. Windows are tinted all the way around, OEM chrome bumpers, Hella H4 headlight conversion with IPF harness, CSF brass radiator, oem hoses, tstat and rad cap, dist cap, rotor, and plug wires. new alt.

the not soo good:
Clearcoat is failing on the paint. Paint is 6 or 7 years old.
AC needs orings and a recharge (r12)
bfg long terrains are a bit long in the tooth (10.50x31's)
a little bit of timing chain rattle at startup, but its done that since I bought it 6 years ago.
