Will a OEM Toyota 4 Runner/Pick-Up Screw Type Bottle Jack lift a loaded FJ60 with 33's high enough and safe enough to change a flat tire? No bottle jack in my 60 when I bought it, hauling around a hydraulic bottle jack seems like overkill but maybe not.

should fit ok... but barely.

ie: on pavement, it should be no problem. But on the trail you might find it a tad short, depends on the terrain you travel.

Ok, thanks for the reply, yeah it would be for pavement or hard packed roads. I'll have a Hi-lift stashed for last resort. 4 Runner/Pick-up Jacks are a dime a dozen, if someone mentions Landcruiser it's suddenly worth 10x's more.

Howdy! I figure you want the jack to reach higher than the height of the sidewalls on your tires. Otherwise, you can get the flat off, but you can't get the spare on. We had to dig a hole to put the spare in on the last trail run I was on. My buddy found out that 37's on a 15"rim have a lot of slidewall. John

If you have height issues, or soft surface issues, you can improve things a lot by carrying a 1"x4"x8" chunk of hardwood. Or even a 2 or 3" thick chunk.... but as you add height you start adding some risk that it'll topple over.

For sure, I was more concerned if those jacks had enough mechanical advantage and strength to lift a heavy 60, my '86 Toyota 4wd Pick-up was much lighter.

to look at the bottle jack on a cruiser vs. a pu they look the same to me. I could be wrong...
give it a try. I'm sure you'll see the results rather quickly.

No idea if it will or not, but it sure worked a treat pushing the OME spring sideways to get the center pin to line up. I like those jacks a lot better than my old Walker bottle jack.

Old mechanic bud talked me into carrying a K-Mart floor jack in my car: it's worked wonders for a long time. Now I'm looking at how cheap the aluminum "racing" jacks are getting.

Don't ignore safety on this one: friend's brother died under his 409 because he trusted a bumper jack.

I thought they were basically the same jack. I have both. I'll pull them out tonight and compare.

When chasing desert racers I carry this:

And this is the mount that it used to ride in:

I need to modify that mount for the FJ. Think it'll hang on the spare's swing-a-way.

mechanically it will work. I have been using one for a while now.

Comparison of the two jacks I have. One from an unknown mini-truck, the other from a 1982 FJ60.

FJ60:

  • Head: 51mm
  • First stage: 44mm
  • Second stage: 37mm

Mini:
  • Head: 49mm
  • First Stage: 43mm
  • Second Stage: 36mm

The LC jack is 1mm larger on the extensions and 2mm larger at the head. They both extend the same height. The base is also different with the LC base having flanges on either side.

Howdy! I wonder how these compare to the old style, solid cast iron ones? John

Measure one.
Howdy! By golly, I did. My OEM p/n 09110-35011 yellow cast iron jack only has a 41mm head. The main lift is 145mm, and the threaded estension on top is an exta 55mm. It is rated at 2 tons, but I'm willin to bet it will lift more. Unfortunately, mine has a crack in one of the ears. John
