Made a run to my local dealer today for oil (they have been selling me oil and filters at a good price). Parts guy says no oil and there is a national shortage, been backorder for 45 days. So called the other toyota dealer, same thing. Called Lexus dealer and was able to get 14qts. But paid full price. Lexus parts guy was telling me there is in fact a shortage of 0w20. First I've heard of this. I try to stick to the toyota oil. Anybody else been ha ing trouble finding?

I ordered mine from Walmart 12/28;
It was odd local pickup was my only option. Then a day later they said it wasn’t available at the store and they’d ship for free. So yeah got the vibe there was some supply issues. Everywhere else I looked was way more expensive.

I can’t speak for Toyota 0w20, but plenty of the non Toyota stuff available here in Denver CO.

At least on the 5w-30 OEM Toyota oil the back of the bottle in very tiny print said made by Mobil as of about 8 months ago. I am pretty certain it’s just rebranded M1. I was in the back at the dealer while the did my oil change on my 100 and the shop manager is a good friend and pointed it out to me.

Hmmm, so a lot switching to 5w30? I'll have to look into that on the forum. I've been running OEM 0w20 in my other 2 yotas for the last 10 years, now have the 200.

3 dealers here telling me 0w20 national shortage, maybe it's just OEM.

Most likely. Plenty of oil and refining capacity in the US.

Toyota is a large enough customer to be able to specify different additive packages than standard M1, and there is virgin oil analysis posted online to compare the two that supports this with data.

Whether the changes are for performance or cost savings we don’t know.

But yes it does appear to be produced by mobil

Did I miss the discussion about 0-20 < 5-30 < 0 - 30?

Yes. Lots of folks are on 5W-30 and I recommend it as well. Its not cold where i am though so YMMV, but theres multiple other markets where it’s specified by Toyota.

Switched to 5w30 at last oil change (Rotella Gas Truck) and really like the smoother starts and increase in oil pressure. Works great here in SoCal.

Appreciate all the comments! Not really looking to change brands or weights unless I'm forced to by availability. Sounds like might just be a supply issue in my area.

I have to search for a bit every time I need Shell Rotella T6 for my Cummins, same goes for the OEM oil filters and engine air filters as well. It's all just a giant mess.

I have just ordered cases of Toyota 0w20 from Amazon. I found it to be pretty readily available.

Oh man. Now I'm paranoid. Is it possible to tell if it's a fake?

This is the exact thing on Amazon I ordered: Toyota 0w20 on Amazon

Even the box it came in was labeled Toyota. The individual quarts are all labeled Toyota. I mean it's certainly possible the actual oil is not what's purported to be but it's a very convincing fake, if it's fake.
