Been searching around and have not found many 70 specific. Any good threads on cleaning the Odometer for 70 series?

Had a couple of mine done by DNA Speedometer here in Tampa. Excellent guys....but usually backed up a little.

Well, sure isn't a 70 series speedo rebuild, I've never even seen a 70 speedo. But we know how Toyota loves to repeat itself. And don't know if this thread will show up in a normal search.
But here's one 55 specific. Hope maybe there's some similarity and maybe might almost help just a little bit...
Plays with Speedos...

It could also be the same unit as a 60 series, so maybe try the 60 series forum as well

@AndrewHadji i doing some gauge work
Yes, im working with dakota digital to get their gauges custom fit into a 70 gauge cluster, i wont have renditions until they receive my cluster, which was sent monday.

This is outside the OP request though. i do have some spares that im willing to part with if the upgraded gauge cluster works out. Does your speedo have the timing belt reminder?

It would look like this

I will take mine apart tonight and let you know. I would expect it not to have reminder as mine is from a 1fz without a rubber timing belt. The speedo cable was broken, so I don't even know if it works. Is the trick to check the speedo to chuck up a matchstick and run a drill in reverse?

Well, got started. First take out the screws around parimeter...

Gets you to here. Simply pull the black trim off - no screws for it...

and you are here....

Then take off the two screws on either side of the speedo cable...

Then I tried to pop off the needle, and it would not budge.... So I stopped here for the night. Any ideas?

Also I tested and the speedometer and odometer are turning when I use the matchstick trick

I have removed my (already broken needle) from my speedo before installing a replacement one. No one local to me was willing to touch a 70 series speedometer so I had to do it myself.

I used the following tool shown below and it popped off relatively easy and replacement snaps on in place. Some others said two spoons would work but not something I would personally do.

Caution: When it does pop off, it will fly off and land somewhere which happened to me. Wasn't easy to find on my terrazzo floors.

thanks @FJ73Texas will try that tonight. I recall pulling one from a 40 speedo several years ago with needle nose and scratched up everything. That looks much smarter....

That tool worked like a charm. Now to takeoff the odometer.... don’t see any pins like I recall on the 40 series. I think I just have to unbend the crimped metal on the ends. Anyone??

So what not to do..... I put a little water on a Q-tip and the number rubbed right off....

Did it fly off and land somewhere on the floor? Glad the tool worked for you and noticed you put paper under it...which I did also. (I forgot to mention that earlier)

Since you mentioned that risk, I kept a finger above it, so it did not go far at all. Thanks for the heads up!

I looked at 40, 55 and 60 speedo threads and cannot find anything like this one.... plan is to bend this piece to get the odo to move out.
