This past Sunday, my Dad and I replaced the fan clutch and went to my sister's house --

-- my sister's brother, who is enamored with high performance LEDs, was taking my George's LEDs out, playing with them and the like --

-- the fuse blew for the lamps (10A), so we replaced it with a 10 amper from his car (redneck, I know, but it's all we had).

My 80 had about 3 gallons of gas in it and was parked at a slight angle on my sister's driveway, nose up.

When my Dad and I went to leave, it wouldn't start -- not at all -- kept turning over, but nothing. This is the first time I have ever had this happen -- I bought it in December.

So, we rolled it out on flat-pavement, put in 3 gals. of gas, and still no start -- with 5-8 cranks --

-- we checked for spark on one of the wires, using the AC unit and PS as grounds -- no spark jump either --

-- we replaced the starter relay -- nothing -- then we swapped out the 7.5A ignition fust with the spare -- nothing --

-- my Dad tried two more times, and then it started --

-- since then, we got gas and it was great -- taking me 700 miles yesterday --

-- what happened?

My guess is that the gas totally drained out of the engine when the 80 was on the incline, and the pump was dry -- but usually it'll pump through pretty quick on flat ground, won't it?

The electrical issue is odd, too -- both the 7.5A fuses checked for continuity --

??? ??? ???

Also, I replaced the alternator, and when I'm behind a truck or something and give it a bit of gas, the headlights still get brighter -- thought that was the sign of a bad alternator??

??? ??? ???

THANKS

fuel pressure regulator.

Didn't you just replace your filter as well?

I couldn't find the filter, till the group helped me out, so that is tonight --

-- I thought with the FPR that it would NEVER work right -- is that true, or is it a slippery slope sort of condition that slowly gets worse?

I have one, ironically --

This was on your '91? If yes, it could be the EFI relay. Seems we're pointing a lot of fingers at that culprit lately.

I swapped out the EFI relay and nuttin' --

-- wondering about the fuel press. regulator --

hmmmmm --

Have you done the wiring mod as well. I seem to remember that the wiring can go after a period of time. The fact that there was no spark would indicate an EFI circuit problem to me.

Hey I'm in Bristol tomorrow night, is that near by?

I can only help with the obvious... your sister's brother, is your brother, right? :slap:

:D

or himself?

It should be easy to test the fuel pressure regulator by clamping off or otherwise restricting the return line to hold a higher pressure. It that doesn't work make sure the fuel pump is working and that you get some fuel through the return line.
