I was browsing through this thread https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj25-owners-group/181527-toyota-ak10-picture.html last night and came across a page with dealer options. This listed an option I had never heard of. It is not Toyota of course...
Here is the page: http://members.iinet.net.au/~stepho/brochures/Toyota/65xx Press pack USA/Dealers p7.jpg

Lower right shows the options. The one I had never heard of is the Capehart Fuel Level Controller. A quick search revealed that it was invented by an American Lonnie

I even found one on E-Bay... that fit on a Hudson... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Cap...Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c2b3e3c7c&vxp=mtr

I included some pics from the E-Bay listing.

Anyone ever run across one of these attached to a Cruiser? Any other odd ball options you have seen?

Yeah, I figured out by reading on the Hudson site what it was supposed to do. However, I thought the OEM carb was already pretty good at this to begin with. ;)
Just wondering why it was offered on a Land Cruiser? :D

farmerjoe has posted pictures of his 40 today. Look in the first picture on firewall; think that is one of these fuel controllers. I had been trying to figure what it was.

What part are you talking about? On the passenger's side that is a vacuum controller for 4WD. Behind the carb is where the vacuum goes from a rubber hose to a hard pipe for the 4WD shifter. I see the brake and clutch master.

Re picture: vac controller bolted to left side of firewall rib; two heater hoses on rt side of rib; item is on firewall below the lower heater hose, point where red wire and heater hose cross. I may be wrong, won't be first time.

speaking of odd options: was there ever an option of cloth on the front bench seats on a '72?

I've seen it a few times in the past as well. It's funny because I was just talking to my buddy about it a few weeks ago. He bought a '69 blazer with cloth seats which I didn't think were stock, but I was up in the air about it because of the FJ's I've seen in the past which had very similar looking cloth fabric.

I may be able to dig up a pic of one I took years ago which had the cloth. I'll have to (hopefully) power up my vintage DELL running windows '95 and see if it's still stored on the hardrive. I'll keep you posted.

I don't think cloth was an option.

But I have had 2 different FJ40, 64 & 69 that had what appeared to be factory leather on the front bench seats. Some old timer told me that leather was actually relatively cheap, compared to plastic made from imported oil, so it was used sometimes. Dunno?
