Thanks for the tips.
I was wondering what to do with the Bearing. I still have my tranny in the truck will that make it harder to put that on?

In and done

No number,4:1,stock washers hi & lo , .009 -.010 .all new shift rail.etc. new output shaft, new hi & lo collar. So, questions: should it be semi-hard to turn shaft ??? And hard to shift by hand using shift fork with top cover off ??? It started turning the drum just over 12 lbs. with a fish scale. Hi speed washer clearance checks ok,but don.t see how I can check lo speed with it assembled?? Thank You.

It had to be shifted into low to check the high speed gear clearance. Why can't you just shift it to high to check the low speed gear clearance? I see you're saying it's hard to shift. You can loosen the detent ball spring and it should be very easy to shift while you're checking the clearance.

Not sure if it's recommended, but I filed the sharp edges on the detent holes on the shift rail with a jeweler's file, which helped it shift a little easier.

I was thinking I had to check the lo speed gear between the washer and gear which is between the case and the gear ??? But I assume it can be checked on the other side ,which I just didn`t think of ???? Thanks for your reply.

This one will be heading to SoCal on Tuesday. Going into a 40 with an SBC400 and TH700.

Got an Orion

Just test drrove mine, got it from Georg ,4 to 1, put together myself, used factory hi and lo output shaft washers, added Georg's front nose cone stiffiner ring. Also I built a new rear transfer case mount that cushions and supports the T/C from the middle, not from the frame. 383 stroker, SM420, 10 degree steel plate adapter, and the shift linkage works well. I will have over 100 day's on the Rubicon Trail this year so any production of this mount will wait till after at least 10 trips. John Pardi

Looks really good John.

nicely done john!

we've built a few similar x-members over the last couple of years but used tubing instead of flat bar for the main portion. either way should work. and it'll deal with flex a whole lot better than the old-style prop mount.

very cool!

I work for Rubicon Trail Foundation, mid trail education staff, talk to users about keeping the trail clean, not tearing it up, staying on it, some people don't have a clue that people are trying to close our trails, I'm out there to help keep this and other trails open. Done chatting. John

Trip #1 done, worked great! Never popped out of gear, used 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear alot, used granny gear a few times. Happy camper.

Ohhh so nice on the mount....when you figure out the production model, I want one!

Cheers!

Another one ready to be boxed up and shipped to its permanent home in WA.

Hello, I have an Orion with the 4:1 gears behind a Toybox and a 1976 4 speed in my 1973 FJ55. It has the stepped washers and ungraded linkage for sure and I am pretty sure it has the back cut gear also. I love the combination, it gives me a lot of control. It does occasionally pop out of high range, usually on hard deceleration. I do run a twin stick set up but I am pretty sure that does not cause it to pop out. I have rebuilt it once since I built it the first time and it was in specification. It is better than it was. The case is #387.
