Why not run an H55f with a 4:1 split case ....... Keep things simple!

Georg

I guess I was referring to the ability to put a gear between 1st and 2nd. I already have the Ranger, just not installed. The H55f was my first thought when considering overdrive for my 40, but I liked the Ranger for it's 27% OD verses the H55f's 17%. Add to that the fact that I'd be able to push my 383 forward away from the firewall where it resides at present and it was a no brainer for me. Now I can add as a bonus the ability to split all of the gears if necessary. I don't know what the gear ratio between 1st and 2nd is, so maybe it's all a moot point?

Fine spline main shafts

The new shipment of main shafts finally hit our shores. I got my batch today. Pm me if you need one.

Georg, when you upgrade to the newer shaft for the Orion,do you still use the same Parking brake washer with the drum? I have the small washer and shim,it slides on but you can see the splines. It looks like it will leak a lot. Should I use the large washer that was on my donor case? Also do I use the shim with it? Thanks, Irish

Not sure what you mean by 'small', but this is the washer you want to use. I'm guessing it's the large one from the donor. Skip the gunky oil if at all possible. :flipoff2:

you should definetly run the heavy oem toyota washer. standard hardware store washers will concave and not hold up well at all.
fwiw, i always silicone the splines on any pinion or t-case yoke or brake drum.

Update, I have assembled Orion, used old washers, every thing else new per this thread. All spec's within reasonable set up guide lines. Took out for test drive, this thing is so quiet compared to stock case. Took it down steep hill's,no pop out of gear's yet. Twin sticks work well , stiff but not as bad as I've heard others say about there's. I use Lucas 80/90 gear oil and it seems to make the two case's I have built run quiet. I will wait to see what the gear oil looks like when it is changed out after break in. Thanks to all that have contributed to this thread, will post up after break in. Thank, Irish P.S. ,When I set up my twin sticks,I used an anval and took my time bending my rods so that the fit with out cutting my floor up.

Wow weeee wow!

Just took delivery and installed my brand new Orion 4:1. Put it behind my 350/h42 combo. This thing is sick Nasty Slow. Big shout out to my home boy Georg at Valley Hybrids. This guy is meticulous when assembling these cases and his service is número UNO :bounce:. I'll get a pic ASAP.

thanks jason. let's see some pics of the "pimp edition" orion. :grinpimp:

Post a pic already Jason or I will!

Just finished resealing case #96. Behind a factory H42 and has 4:1 gears.

And I built #500 something for another fellow mudder this week. 4:1 gears and also going behind the stock 4 Spd.

Two more things worth mentioning; a shameless plug and some tech:

1) I stock new main shafts and front output shafts. The case pictured above got a new fine spline front output.

2) whenever I install the idler shaft, I put it in the shop fridge ( freezer ) for a couple of hours first. Those puppies fit pretty tight and can be a pita. Shrinking them down a little by cooling them helps quite a bit.

What was the total cost for everything with shipping?

I am waiting on a quote from WFO to put together a 4:1 ORION since they are 13 miles from my house. Thought I may be able to save on shipping costs. I will be interested to see if there is a wide spread difference on cost. I know George is one of the best, knows all the assembly tricks, and is most fair, no question on that!

You should support the Cruiser specific shops. WFO are good folks, but Cruisers are just incidental to their operation.

Georg has done a lot of these and I'd trust his experience.

In the end, costs are not going to be that different.

Thanks for the kind words and confidence in what I do .....

Trevor at WFO is not just somebody I call a friend, but he also does solid work. If you've already contacted him to build you an Orion, then you're in good hands. I'm in no way looking to take business away from him.

Sincerely.

Thanks Georg. This is the first time I have been to WFO and they have an impressive shop operation. There is no taking away of business from WFO because they are overbooked and busy as all hell! It is nice that they are so close to my house.

And LilJohn thanks, I will hit you up if things don't pan out close to home!
