When my blaster cones in, I plan on blasting the entire engine assembly, and painting it with a high heat tolerant paint in a semi gloss black.

I'll have the opportunity to lay down a semi gloss high heat clear coat on top of the black. This will allow things to stay cleaner and will be easier to clean, and will help the engine bay look nicer. Obviously though, it is not OE.

If you were in my shoes, and money and time were not an issue, would you go the extra step to clear coat?

I blasted and degreased my e-brake drum and gave it a coat of black and then clear coat. This'll be what the engine would look like it I went forward with it:

(BTW, I think it looks great)

Well, time at least...

Money is there as long as I can keep up my other projects.

I need an extra one of these. It's the lower front leaf spring bracket. My other one is pretty mangled and bent. I though maybe one if y'all had one laying around somewhere.

No, but let's just say it's a lot.

Removed transfer case.

Now it's time to remove the bell housing, and clutch/flywheel assembly to prepare the engine to placed on an engine stand I just bought from Harbor Fright.

Only problem is though, is that I can't figure out how to remove the bell housing. Technically I haven't tried yet, but all I see are these two bolts at the top of the bell housing. What am I missing?

@wngrog and @ntsaint , the above question is directed at y'all...

Also, anyone know where I can find a copy of the FSM? @beno , do you know of a digital copy floating around anywhere?

I'll need one to do bolt sequences and torques when all this she-it starts getting put back together.

1-Remove clutch fork.
2-Remove pressure plate from flywheel
3-Remove flywheel
4-Remove Bellhousing

How the heck can you remove the clutch before the bell housing?!

Is there an access panel at the bottom?

Man I feel stupid. Figured out how to access the top bolts on the pressure plate...just rotated the crankshaft.

DUH!!

Got the bell housing, flywheel, clutch removed. Sure enough, the rear main looks like it has a small leak. Good thing I've got a new one in order.

My throw out bearing was partially seized; got a new one of them too. Also ordered the spring clips that hold the clutch fork to the throw out bearing, inspection covers and boots for the bell housing, new gaskets for thermostat housing, water pump, timing cover, fuel pump, and oil filter housing.

I've found a number of after market bolts; it obvious this truck has had clutch job sometime in the past. Those will be replaced with cadmium JIS harware. I also noticed a lot of missing bolts; those will also be replaced with CAD JIS hardware.

The flywheel looks nice. I'll just clean it up well, and give the outside a fresh coat of paint (not the mating surface obviously).

Oh and good news; my pot blaster comes in today. I'll be going to Tractor Supply to pick up about 400lbs of blasting media later this morning.

Got an engine stand!
