That's the timing mark. Paint it too.

I did paint it; just looks like there should be a small cover over it. Can someone share some insight?

There is supposed to be a cover held on by a 10mm bolt. It's just flat piece of metal with a tab on it. You can make one.

Needed a solution for holding bolts upright to blast the heads that didn't come out of the tumbler clean.

Used an old grill sauté pan. Worked perfectly.

Man, I've spent a ton of time getting these things perfectly clean. I can't wait to see what they look like when they come back from plating.

Wow...the obsessive-compulsive in your tag line makes sense now.... (Not an insult...to the contrary, actually)

Comparing this build to nolen's is an interesting study in personality profiles.

Something a younger @beno would write a thesis on.

Started blasting the engine today. Still have a long way to go, but this blaster makes very quick work of 40 years of dirt, grime, and rust.

No, both work fine.

And I can also easily replace those in the future if I need to.

I'll definitely clean and inspect them while I have them out.

Anyone know why I have 2 sending units on my thermostat housing? Beno said it might be some sort of CA compliant part. I'll need to buy a new sending unit of course, but don't think I'll need 2. I was thinking I could just plug one of the holes.

I don't think either are sending units. They should just be VSVs, and you can leave them in there to plug it. That's how mine (FJ60 2F) was after it got desmogged. I just left them in there with nothing connected.

You can also use one of those for the temp sender when you convert it to TBI.

Good to know, thanks!

Also got the new hubcaps to go with them.

You're planning on changing the thermostat and water pump, etc, right?

I spoke too soon; ordered a new pump and thermostat today, along with a bunch of firewall grommets.

Still need to take care of soft and hard brake lines and still need to buy a knuckle rebuild kit from Cruiser Outfitters.

Then I'll have everything I need to put the engine in and the axles under the frame once it comes back from the powder coater.

Called @wct49 amd had him place an order for the full OME Darkar suspension kit.

Does it come with bearings, and free consultation from the man himself?

Yes and yes
