Well, I did it. 1973 FJ40 This was being sold by a fellow mudder who is more active on Pirate4x4 but he advertised here in the classified section. It is a couple years earlier then I was looking for but I realized you can build the 40 you want, you just need a good foundation. Although the rear sill needs replaced and there is a rust bubble on the PS door rocker it seems to be fairly clean. The engine does have a lot of miles for an F at 140XXX so a rebuild is in the near future. The plan is to get it, change all the fluids, brake pads, filters, wipers and any lights that need it. Then drive it like it was meant for at least a year. The knuckles might need worked before then. Then full frame off restoration to restore it to its glory.
What I need right away is a cigarette lighter and a Rolling Stones or similar cassette tape. So if anyone can help with that let me know.
Here is a picture of it being loaded on the truck in AZ. More to follow when it arrives early this week. When I wasn't at work the last two days I was getting the garage ready. I'm very excited. And if anyone in Charlotte area wants to swing by I have Thursday night off.
As soon as I get my Paypal account fixed I will be purchasing a silver star and an ONSC membership.
So without further ado, here Carolina's newest 40.

Whenever I get the chance to swing by the shop Darin I will have to check out your tapes. The PO doesn't even know if the tape player still works. God, I hope it does! I definitely need to come by so we can take a look at the rust and come up with a plan to address it. I will call as soon as I get back from my hunting trip after thanksgiving to see if we can set something up.
I can't wait to sit in it and smell it. Strange I know but everytime I crawl into the 74' 911 the smell is the first thing I notice.
Oh and a total score IMO is the original jack! That will be the first thing I rebuild :-)
My GF has no idea what is about to happen... *Maniacal Laugh*

Oh, and a special shout out to Charity and everyone else who chimed in over the last three months with advice and thoughts on the various cruisers I looked at. Time to upgrade the signature.

Sure looks Purdy in the pic! Congrats! Now you have to bring to the barn Dec 1 so we all can drool on it...

That there is a pretty truck :grinpimp:

Congrats my friend! Welcome to the addiction:hillbilly:

Congrats. I am glad you fund your 40

Well done! Nice lookin' 40.

Great looking truck! hope to see it soon and hear the plans.....
btw 140k on a 30 yr old f is nothing, i would anticipate a rebuild without suspicious noises/behavior

Congrats!

Nothing against guys like John Vee or anyone else but to me, personally, I would put holes in the floor board and drive it like Fred Flinstone before I put a SBC in it. Yabadabadoo!

And in other news, I have to work Thursday now and have Tuesday off. So no party at my house on Thursday :-( I will be posting plenty of pictures though!

If 80's movies taught me anything, it's that your absence doesn't rule out a party. You do want a 40 in the living room, right?

And, no offense taken. My 350 was already in it and had been since the 80's. Looks to be very well done. My only gripe might be too much power - when has anybody ever said that????
