Wait, I watched your YouTube videos on AHC just the other day. The one where you use tech stream and check pressures. I want to make this AHC work but can’t really justify the expense if I have to replace literally any parts for it to function properly. It just doesn’t ride very well.
Yup, having owned both suspension types in a 100, I'm a big "pro-AHC" guy. Sans rust, I couldn't justify removing that system for myself. Generally, the "gremlins" are simple and predictable, but if you don't know the system well it's all ghosts and goblins. If yours goes up and down, but rides poorly I'd bet a benjamin you've got a dead globe (or 4). You can do a real quick and easy test even without techstream. Put it in high, mark the fluid level in the reservoir with tape or a marker (a flashlight on top of the res makes it easier to see the fluid level). Then put it in low. Now mark the gradations it moved and count em up. If it's 8 or less you've got dead globes. That simple test shows that the system needs relatively little fluid to move the truck up and down which happens when the gas-filled globes leak. They last about as long as normal shock absorbers so they need replacement every 10 years, but are commonly never replaced. Go spend $700 on a full set of new OEM globes (somebody just posted up a link on here for an awesome exporter out of Japan where the total was $650-700 for a full set). With new globes, that 100 should ride pretty similar to the 200.
You'll spend more to convert it properly and end up with something inferior. Probably spend more time as well. The weird problems on AHC can be a bear, but 90+% of the problems in the community are simply dead globes and bad pressures with a bad sensor once in a blue moon. All are pretty easy to solve.
Either way, enjoy that ride and let me know if I can help out with AHC tips!
Also worth noting, in case you're not aware, the globes are the common wear item. When they die, the ride is 100% garbage. It's akin to having a shock absorber filled with cement. It makes many owners think the entire system must be trashed to allow the car to feel so terrible. It's simply the globes. They are the entirety of your shock absorber. No gas, no shock. At all. Simple fix, but feels awful when they fail.
