New Wipers OE vs Aftermarket

Just ordered all 3 OEM inserts as well. Rear wiper was starting to come apart so replaced it but front ones still going. Impressed on how long front wipers have lasted; 3 years, 59k miles and counting.

I think I have tried just about every highly rated after market wiper out there and spent frankly, a dumb amount of money doing so. Hands down, not even close the OEM Toyota/Lexus wipers are the best I have tried.

Part #'s: 85222-42110 and 85222-53071

@bloc you have mentioned a dozen times how much you hate rain x on your windshield in here. What do you use for wiper fluid? I’m in TX too. I’ve used rainx fluid and blades on all my previous vehicles (not LCs) and swear by the fluid. I like that water runs off the glass so well that I could leave my wipers off during rain if I wanted to. I personally prefer this than using wipers at a high speed setting to maintain my vision.

I just traded into this 200. It has old rainx blades that are chattering like crazy and I’ll replace them with OEM assemblies after reading through here. I have no idea what the dealer used for wiper fluid. But I can’t see driving in the rain right now because the rain just covers the windshield instead of beading up and running off between strokes of the wiper blades.

I use regular wiper fluid from OReilly that goes to about 20F. If I have a winter ski trip or something coming up I’ll make a point of running it low or out before that trip and pick up some low temp stuff on the road.
Clean glass is important. I suppose if you are used to rainX regular wipers on good glass might not cut it for you, but I can assure you with good blades and clean glass you can drive in very heavy rain and visibility is great. Toyota put good wipers on these vehicles.

And the payoff for no rainX? the water that does inevitably end up on your glass doesn’t spot as badly, and the KEY part for me.. because of the normal surface tension, when actually using the wipers/fluid to clean the windshield of dust or bugs, it acts like it’s supposed to. It leaves an ultra thin film that evaporates evenly. With rainX that super thin film beads up and leaves streaks after it evaporates. Also no worries about what that rainX fluid is doing to the paint that it inevitably ends up blowing back onto.

I eventually took a dual action polisher and some glass compound to the windshield. It totally removed the rainX and some spots that seemed a part of it. As well as make my OE wipers work even better. My opinion is any used vehicle could stand to have this done to the front and rear glass at least.

What is your glass cleaning protocol? Do you apply anything to the glass right after you clean it? When driving in heavy rain, you operate your good wipers on a high speed to maintain visibility? Sorry I am just trying to understand your method here. I have been so pleased with the beading property of rainx that I never considered anything else. I have never had issues with with streaking. But I can definitely see how if you clean your glass, apply rainx, and then don't have rainx fluid you would get streaking after a couple months. I have never personally, nor have I ever read about, anyone having trouble with rainx fluid on paint.

Sprayway aerosol foaming cleaner and a waffle weave microfiber towel, nothing applied after. Clean glass and fresh blades work very well. Now that I’ve done it I think the mechanical polishing is important and I’ll probably do that once per year.

In my experience the auto wipers actually try to move to high speed too early, so usually I’ll keep it on regular until that isn’t getting the job done.

As for streaking, it’s slight, but it’s there. The last four used vehicles I’ve bought had rainX applied by the dealer or PO and every one did it. Before I figured out this dual action polishing process I tried a few other things to remove it with varying success.. but what was directly related was if I got it off, the streaking stopped.

I should add I’m pretty OCD about clean glass. I usually don’t even use glass cleaner interior to the car because I haven’t found one yet that doesn’t increase fogging. Distilled water and both a slightly wet and a dry towel do the best job in my experience.

I have tried them all on my previous Toyotas. OEM or bust. Try and find the Japanese made rubber as opposed to the Chinese/Taiwanese that the dealers typically sell.

Avoid Rain X - nothing but problems and streaks - in my experience. The front glass is already hydrophobic.

Seeing this post again reminded me of the noise I'm getting while using the driver side wiper in the rain. Just bought an oem set from amazon. Hope it helps.

I have used PIIA in all my rigs and they have always been the only pair I needed to buy

If you have the original frames (not the crappy Toyota replacements they sell in the parts department), you can just buy oem inserts from Toyota.

Is this an OEM assembly? (back glass)

That doesn’t seem to be OEM. The correct part number is 85242-42030 and looks like this:

FWIW at this point, I switched my Sightline wipers the PO installed over to the OEM and adequate words do not exist to describe how great they are. I've never experienced a wiper that functions better than these. Even a passenger with no knowledge of the truck or my recent change commented on them with no prompting.

Got my wipers installed today. The front two are amazing.

Boch Toyota sent me a Sightline part # 85242-YZZRE-TM for the back glass. I specifically ordered a Toyota 85242-42030 and they sent this instead. Invoice in the box says the Sightline part number replaces the Toyota part number. I'm going to email them and ask wtf. Any other source I can get the real Toyota assembly without going through this again?

Who did you order from? It was a couple years ago but I got the OE part from my source, and my gut is saying your source just sent you what was in their inventory vs special ordering what you specified.

I ordered from Toyota OEM Parts | EB TOYOTA PARTS | toyotaparts.bochtoyotasouth.com | Boch Toyota South. I have ordered many OEM parts for my 40 from them without issue at good prices. This is the first problem I've had. I just want to make sure I can actually get the real Toyota assembly from somewhere else before I call them to complain.

I have ordered from Olathe Toyota and received the Toyota part: Rear wiper at Olathe Toyota 2013 LC200

You should be able to get the part you want from Boch Toyota.

Might not even need to be a complaint, just contact them and ask if “replaces” is in all of Toyota’s parts network or just theirs. Pointing out that you’d prefer the OE part over the sightline replacement if at all possible... after all 99% of the people they deal with don’t know or care that there is a difference.
