Hello Team!
I urgently need help on this topic for my elderly disabled parents car. I moved over a thousand miles away for work, and I can’t help them with the problem for another few more weeks when I hope to fly down for a visit. And yes, I am trying to get them moved closer to be near us so we can help take care of them.
The background: 2014 model. Garage kept and it has 63,000 miles on it, never wrecked or repaired, all original Texas and Colorado vehicle with no rust. The original rain sensor sticker had somehow developed a crease in it and would not operate the auto wipers about a year ago. I replaced it with a new OEM one, and installed new Toyota OEM wiper blade inserts at the same time; all functions have been good since that fix, until now.
Problem: speaking with my Dad yesterday, he said the wipers are now running all the time, raining or not, and with the stalk set to “off”.
Solution path: I am trying to diagnose from afar and help guide on what to test to see if we can figure out what might cause this issue.
Not having a FSM, and not knowing what computer or body control modules affect this system, I am flying blind. I also don’t know if the switch stalk is a failure point or how to test that.
I did find the part number for a wiper motor pulse board module # 85943-60050
- Is there a test for this module aside from a failure like we are seeing?
- Where is this module located and is it DIY possible or a job for an experienced tech?
- what fuse or relay can be pulled for now to stop wiper motor operations and where is it located?
- I told my Dad that fully disconnecting the battery for 10 mins or so and reconnecting it might be worth a shot for now also; thoughts?
- I also considered disconnecting the plug from the rain sensor on the windshield might work for now also, and might prove that part is bad.
- for those thinking “take it to the dealer”, my parents have had a bunch of medical issues over a long time and are now really struggling financially because of those issues. Taking this to a dealer to hear about a $500+ repair on a wiper system is not a possible cost for them to pay right now, and it will fall on my sister and I to take care of. I am trying to find out if the dealer near them (STEVINSON Lexus of Lakewood, Co) will diagnose this issue and at what cost for diagnosis and repair.
Thanks in advance!
