I'm a new member who had posted about looking for my first FJ40. Well, it followed me home today. A sort of local purchase. It was a few hours away.

It's a 77 owned by the PO since 2004. He drove it for a few years and then took it apart to refresh when the motor was getting tired. He had that rebuilt and then redid/enhanced pretty much everything in 2009/2010 and then used it around his ranch. It hasn't seen much use in the last few years. He bought a Samuri to tow behind his motor home. It's a nice driver quality rig, certainly not show quality, but that's what I was looking for. The diamond plate was put on because he liked it and thought it would add some protection. A nice stack of records, books, owners manual and pics of the work he did. There are a few projects to do. It also needs new tires. I'm looking forward to getting to know it better.

Congrats! With those lift springs (assumption) and front shackles, I would check your caster as first order of business. If its out of whack, it will steer/drive much better with it corrected. If there are no shims in between the leaf springs and the spring perches on the front axle, it will likely benefit from a caster adjustment either by shorter shackles, steel caster correction shims, or both. Nice looking driver you found yourself.

I had the same concerns but it does look like there are shims. I’d still measure the caster due to the size of that shackle lift. When it time I’d also want to know what hides behind the diamond plate.

Congratulations on a good looking 40! I love how Porsche owners gravitate to LCs. I’ve bounced between them. If my wife would allow, I’d have both! Still miss my 76 2.0 914 - 39k miles and plaid interior - sold before the values took off (doh)!

Glad you found one. Can’t wait to see it!

Nice find. Looks like a good one.

Looks like a great vehicle. I also see on-board air & an A/C power inverter? The diamond plate always makes me twitch--I hope it's just bling and not botch.

It does have on board air. Not sure on the inverter. He didn't mention it, I'll take a closer look. The diamond plate was a choice he made after refinishing and painting the tub. He liked the look, thought it added protection and went with the wheels and box for the rear he ordered. I wish it wasn't there, but there were too many good things in my mind to pass on it for that.

I look forward to it. I have it apart a bit already to make the seat work better for me and it needs tires. It has Toyo's on it now, and they are old. The spare though is unused. I'm torn between buying 5 new or just 4 and keep the spare. I also need to get the title transferred. I'm on the hunt for a vintage plate to register it as a classic before I do that.

I’ve used this business in the past, was a few miles from where I used to live.

I love that red on a 914 and I'm not normally a fan of red on Porsche's. My latest 914 is a bit of a project. I redid the suspension and drove it to Rennsport last year. It's down again for a transaxle swap and a few other things.
