Hi,

I'm moving to Austin this week and wanted to introduce myself. I have two cruisers: a 1988 62 with a 2H and a 1969 40 with a 2F. The wagon is my daily driver and I'll be driving it from NC to TX later this week. The 40 is at a friend's in MO, getting some fine tuning before I (hopefully) bring it down later this summer.

After a quick search, I found Austin Land Cruiser Specialists. Are they still around? I need to do the rear main seal and I think the front crank seal.

Below are my cruisers.

Thanks

Welcome to Texas! Yes, LC Specialists are still around, and they do good work. They’re probably your best bet, but I’d also call Bearden’s Automotive. I know Bearden’s will happily work on 100 series and newer, but I’m not sure about older.

@aljollano will get you squared away.

I’m digging the old school hubcaps on your 40. Need to get some for my 66.

Welcome to Austin.

Edwin at LCS is great but they are way backed up always.

As others have said, AJ is your dude.

Where in town are you moving? We need more southies.

Ian

@aljollano . As others have said AJ will take care of you!

welcome to Austin!

Good Carma in Buda is where I take my trucks. They charge $120/hour for labor, but they do great work and I trust them. Brian is the owner, and Tim is the shop manager. If you call them - tell them Kyle with the Land Cruiser sent you. My 80 series is with them right now getting a 3" dobinsons lift kit installed.

How was the drive? Welcome to Texas!

We may be meeting up at AJ's shop next weekend. Look for the announcement from Tyler in a nearby post.

I'm here now. Drive was ok. I love my wagon, but I have an intermittent heat spike that causes me grief.

I've also got oil leaks that I want to resolve. Then I can start focusing on other things like sound dampening and fixing other little things.

AJ, l'll give you a call.

Heat spike as in t he suddenly the gauge pegs out? It’s a contact on the Guatemalan issue if that’s it. I know what it is on mine and still bothers me

I would see the needle rise rather quickly, although not instantaneously, up to max.

But I just got it back from AJ (@aljollano ). He redid my rear main seal, which ultimately failed after a previous poor installation, my thermostat, and the fan clutch. He did great work and I'm very glad to be close to a trusty Cruiser mechanic.

The drive from NC was pretty good. The wagon held up well, aside from those heat spikes, but I'm expecting that issue to be resolved now.

I'm looking forward to the next meetup.

Welcome to the Austin Crew! Be on the lookout for meetups and other things in future!

-Tyler
