El Guapo has some new shoes - Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx in 285/75R16.

Initial impressions: The tires were quiet and smooth during around-town driving (quieter and smoother than my old Nitto Terra Grapplers were when I replaced them). I also drove about 8-10 miles on the highway. There was a slight whine that started at about 50 mph, and it was still there at 58 mph. However, I had the radio off and was listening specifically for tire noise; it's not going to bother me during normal driving. The highway ride was smooth also. Oh, and I think they look really good!

I'll be testing them off-road this weekend during a two night/three day camping trip in the Chattahoochee National Forest in N. Georgia.

I have 37" ST Maxx.... best all around tire I've ever had. They should call them APs, for all pupose.

Nice looking tires and nice looking rig. Are you running stock gearing? Are you running stock induction?

Thanks. Yes, stock gearing and induction.

Good looking tires, these are on my short list when I get some new tires

Very nice tires... I am on the fence between these and KO2s, let us know how they perform please.

Let me know if you want some gpx (filename) trails for that area, I have some saved from the GA Overland trail.

I'm on my 4 th set of coopers and have these in the 315 75 16. They a very aggressive allterrain and are more like a mud but wear so much better and are quiet compared to the KO's and stt's I've had.

Currently sitting on a brand new set. Only had them on road so far but I can tell you the on road manners are great, they are insanely quiet for what they are. Will be testing them off road (nothing extreme; fairly tame trail) this weekend feel free to reply to me on Sunday/Monday if you'd like a report.

These tires are awesome offroad. You will be very happy with yours.
Check out the rear footprint-tires are aired down to 20 lbs. This is on the Pony Express Trail in Nevada.

Do you normally run them at 20 psi off-road?

I run mine about 20 on rough terrain and 16 lbs in Moab

Nice looking boots. Cooper truly delivers an outstanding tire for the money. I'm glad I'm not paying for race cars, blimps, and half the advertising in enthusiast magazines. I've got a set of the pavement optimized Cooper Tire & Rubber Company - Discoverer ATP™ and I'm quite happy with them. They don't seem to hold gravel and debris and are wearing like iron while very quiet. I'll be going to the ST MAXX when I bump up tire size to to 285 from the 265s that are currently on the truck.

I run the Cooper Discoverer STT Pro on my Xterra and love them. The road noise has gotten a little louder as they wear. But I may notice that more now since I drive everywhere with the windows down, AC took a dump on me.

45 psi on the pavement?
I run mine at about 42 and I have 255/80-17 Maxx's with about 11k on them, they are wearing a little faster than most would think but thats our roads up here, and they do get a little noisy at 55+ mph as they wear but nothing like my old KMII's. The maxx's are as good or better than the Bridgestone Revos I have been running on my 3/4ton's since they came out 15+ years ago and those are a great AT tire but not a supper great off road tire. I am fairly sure a set of ST-maxx's in 285/75-16 will be going on my duramax next fall....

45 psi on the pavement?
i've had them up to 55 with a heavy load in Dingo, but they are pretty bouncy. 45 seems like a nice compromise and I can feel the reduced rolling resistance. Probably better mileage too. Mine are 255/85-16s.

These are at the top of my list. The ST Maxx or STT Pro. I will decide in the next few hours. I know a lot of guys out wast in WY/MT that are using the ST Maxx with great results. I think you will be really happy with them. I would go with them no questions if it weren't for the fact that i hear the STT Pro is better in the mud with only a little more road noise and maybe less long term mileage durability. But STT Pro is supposed to be REALLY civilized on road. So i am very tempted to go STT Pro.

I've been very pleased with the set of 255/85s on my 80. Just 3000 miles on them now but still quiet, smooth, and impressive traction. They recently pulled me out of challenging snowmelt conditions in a dark remote hollow as I wondered HTF I got there.
