Made up some brackets to attach tha a and c pillars of the cage to the frame. Used a couple small chunks of 1/4" square for the front and some bent round tube for the rear both welded to 1/4" angle tabs that are bolted to the frame.
Also filled in the rest of the empty bolt holes in the frame.
Did a custom upholstery job on the center console arm rest.... lol. Pieces of material from Derrek's grandmas couch.
After taking a break to enjoy what was left of the summer i finally made it back out to the garage yesterday. Didnt accomplish anything huge lol. Made a drivers side apron scoop out of an chrome 80's suzuki motor bike lic. plate/brake light bracket. Its plated on the back side and held on w three bolts. I keep telling myself that the scoop and the 2" dia hole through the apron is gonna get some more air flow under the hood.... Probably do f all but I like the way it turned out...
Made a little spider web on the ps side of the cage (yeah yeah been lookin at too many rat rods) out of some stair carpet runner rod things I had around. Kinda silly but I had fun.
And the manditory "made in japan" emblem from the previously mentioned motor bike parts.
Well, I must have a horse shoe shoved up in somewhere. Scored another set of sixty series axles yesterday..... with 5;13 gears and auto lockers f/r! Theyre set up for soa already and the front has a histeer set up that I probably cant use.
Now Im wondering which front housing I should use. Im guessing that the new axle has been cut and turned since its soa (gonna verify that though) and the one under the truck now has not. The front end of the truck is obviously way higher than stock but the axle is shoved forward 5" from stock as well. Unless Im way off base and my eye sight is gone the uncut axles pinion looks to be lining up good with the t case now with the caster set at +1*. I might be able to get away with just swapping thirds in the front... Have to do some measurin and some intense maths to figure out whats what.
The soa'd perches on the rear axle are lower profile than the ruff stuff ones I have so I can either have the rear end sit a little lower or I can cut the old brackets off and use the rs perches again.
Any advice is welcome...
I knew I didnt fully weld anything to the axles for a reason!
Well I pulled the front third yesterday and found out its open... Oh well. Counted the teeth on the gears, 37 on the ring gear and 7 on the pinion so 5:28. Double checked the rear and the gears match. Also verified that the rear is indeed locked, still have to pull the cover and see how.
Yeah, Im just getting back into it lol. Had to take a break for a bit and not look at the damn thing.
I ordered a champion 3 core rad from flea bay the other day so that should hopefully show up soon. Also pretty close on pulling the trigger on an aussie locker for the front. The geard third is out already and like hell am I gonna install it then take it back out down the road. Thats what Im telling myself anyways. A vendor on pirate has em for 300, 340something with shipping. And for once theres no freaking duty since the locker is "made in the usa", supposedly. Free trade my ass, Ill believe it when I dont get charged.
Plan is to stuff the whole new rear axle in and throw the new third in my existing axle.
Pics of stuff thats been taken apart..
What do you do when you gave away your 53mm socket when you sold your last lc and its a holiday weekend? Make a 53mm socket lol. Its ugly but it works mint.
Got a bunch of random stuff done. Cleaned up and threw the rear aussie locked/5:29'd axle in, fixed up the rear shackle angle, took off the windshield and popped the glass, test fitted the new rad, welded up a bunch of random spots on the tub, tweaked the door hinges a bit more, made a front diff guard out of a 10" pipe cap.... the usual bs.
40s have rust. Yours has some. so what?
The frame and running gear look to be in good shape
A putty knife , then some Rustoleum and your neighbors won't care.--you have a good base 40 from what I can see--drive it!
Got an aussie locker installed in the front third yesterday so it matches the rear. Easier than I thought it was gonna be, lets just hope my diff doesnt grenade due to shoddy workmanship lol.
Also got the windshield out and all of the wiper linkage/assorted hardware stripped off. The windshield took a **** kicking but it was already cracked, managed to save the seal though.
Thats it for updates, gonna be hammering on the body for a bit next.
