Took a garage break and wheeled the sixty in the rain yesterday, had a blast. My buddy Randy, whos been helping me a bunch, is drivin in this one. Fun little play area on a local trail.
Not too much to report, weathers been nice so Ive been messing around in the yard. Derek gave me his 33x12.5 duratracks to use so I cleaned up the sixty chrome rims and painted them black before mounting them. Looks decent.
Got a bunch of little stuff in the mail that i cant put on yet....
Damn, that puppy is coming along nice! I'm a purist at heart but knowing I supplied a few parts for the beast I'm liking where you're headed with this.
In all honesty Im really glad I picked up a way too far gone pos instead of something Id be tempted to restore "properly". I know that a lot of the anal oem back to stock guys here probably cringe every time I cut and or bastardize something on my van but the way I figure its better than it rotting away, getting scrapped or being parted out.
Its also a lot funner when there is no plan and you end up "inventing" this and that to get to where you want to be. Makes whatever youre working on unique in its own way....
The quarters are all 1/8" steel so theyre many many times stronger than the oe steel ever was. There are also 1/4" backing plates on the inside that will hopefully add some support. Ultimately I plan to run a tube behind the seats that will join the two first backing plates together but I have to wait and see what the roll cage plan is gonna be (hoping to grab a metal tech family cage before the body comes off). I may just run short tubes from the cage to the backing plates, theres gonna be more support before it gets pinged off the trees.
Anyways, Ive seen it done with less reinforcement on runners and pickups and while Im sure it wouldnt take a big hit I think it would serve its purpose as a rub bar.... maybe.... lol. I mostly just thought it would look cool is the truth.
Im being positive lol. If the stock 1/4 can hold up a spare on a carrier mine just might not bend... too much.
Cleaned up the welds on the tail light buckets a little and evened things out. Still have to tweak the ds mount but they look all right. Filled a couple holes in the rear sill at the same time.
Price is decent for the weld together kit, couldnt resist. Saves time and might not turn out crooked as all hell like the rest of my junk.
Knocked a bunch of stuff off the list. Tied the tube fenders in to the shock hoops, made gussets for the slider outriggers, finished off the tail light surrounds, rigged up some limit strap deals for the tail gate, found some cool lookin signals at the scrap yard.... lol.
Signals are clearance lights from a 60's or 70's international transport and the tg straps are from an.... ugh cherokee chief pickup. Also found a 70's lookin toy pu tail gate and a bunch of other random emblems and such. I love junkyarding.

^^^ Thats ok, I got four sets lol, and I know where theres more. I really wanted the "sticky nickel" bomb style signals but when I saw these I figured Id save some cash. Planning on prettying them up a little and powder coating them black when I have time.
