Is 300lbs the actual limit??
That means that the tent and my wife need to slim down tot 20lbs to make this work.
It's a good thing i'm not at my football playing weight at 295... but that would mean i'd need to start going to the gym again and i'm allergic right now:D

I'm not sure if anybody confirmed if that was the load limit for the RTT version as well, but that's what finderscuba indicated in an earlier post.

But from a more recent post by Sergio (BajaRack) states that their racks are designed to handle a static weight of 900lbs...

I can't recall what the factory/recommended load limit on the rain gutters of the 80, if that has ever been mentioned anywhere (I think I've heard of such a thing for the factory roof rack/rails though).

From a post above, it looks like the rack itself was designed to handle 900lbs, but they will only mimic the recommendation of Toyota for roof load capacity. I think this is pretty common, for liability reasons.

You are correct firetruck41, we have to go by the recommended weight capacity of the vehicle manufacturer.
Just to clarify the rack can hold 900 lb.
In regards to availability, they have a 2 week lead time from the time of purchase. The special price for all 3 models will last until the end of May after May the price for the full length rack will go up to $595.00 plus shipping.

Cheers

Great Racks!! Happy to use them on all of our Guide Vehicles!! Keep up the good work, Sergio!

I received and mounted my rack recently and managed to use it this past weekend on a camping expedition. So far I'm very pleased. It's the short version that does not cover the sunroof.

A few nit-picks though:
  1. There is about 1.5 - 2" too much clearance between the rack bottom and the roof. This would be fine for those with factory rails but for me it just makes the truck that much more tall.
  2. No instructions for assembly or installation were included with the rack. I figured it out for myself with no problems though.
  3. There are a few "pinches" or "dents" in the tubing that do not look like they belong. There are at least 3 on the main tubing and a couple on the floor bars. I'm not concerned over structural integrity (these things are strong looking), nor am I concerned over corrosion (coating looked fine and not damaged). I think these defects may have been there prior to surface finish.
  4. The stretch net hooks hook on everything making it difficult to use. Just a nit-pick.
  5. No bicycle, kayak or canoe attachment accessories available.
I really like the look of this rack. It seems quiet even at highway speeds. With the sunroof open there is more wind coming in through the roof but nothing major. I can see loading this to be difficult if you have much lift and large tires - now I need a ladder. I look forward to seeing other attachment accessories. I had a couple of bikes laying down on the rack, but would like to be able to mount them standing up. Also, a kayak or canoe carrier would be handy.

A great rack and Sergio was very helpful and attentive. I highly recommend this for all you fence-sitters. Beware high shipping cost to Canada though (no fault of BajaRacks).

I would have to agree with you on all of you points.

1. Yes, lower would be better

2. I did find it odd that no instructions were included as it would have been a better starting point when initially mounting the rack to the gutters and would have saved time later adjusting it.

3. This was my biggest gripe, a couple of weeks after installing the rack I began noticing the "pinches" and dents that you mentioned; mostly the one at the main (rear) end tube bend on the sides, the metal was bent too much during manufacture and is actually cracked through as is the powder coat. I did not want to bother having to ship & return it and frankly I just chalked it up to having an early "prototype," hopefully it will hold together in the long run.

5. A kayak or canoe rack would be an excellent addition.

I will say that with my 33" spare up there, a lot of flexing goes on but so far no rattles once I figured out to shim the wind deflector with some rubber gasket material. The Hi-Lift will occasionally rattle though.

The rack fits my needs so far and time will tell on future, more lengthy expeditions.

They should offer a lower mount option - would simply be shorter mounts.

Anyway - still a great rack and I'm very happy with it.

I only have unloaded photos so far:

Can someone who has one of these racks please measure the distance from roof to top of rack. It need to know if my LC will still fit in my garage with the rack on

MMA_Head:

Mine measures 11.25 inches from the outside/top edge of the rain gutter above the rear door to the apex/highest part of the rack itself. I hope this helps . . .

What was shipment to canada? Im very interested in this rack as well, and im in the Abbotsford B.C. area

I have attached a few pictures of our “prototype” Jerry Can Holders for all of our racks.

What is the target price for the jerry can holders?

They charged $160 to ship to Winnipeg. Came by FedEx and took only about a week.

The box was huge and near 60lbs. I was not dinged any additional taxes or duties. YMMV

Mounting lights

Anyone mount lights to their Baja yet? I didn't order the brackets and I'm unsure where they attach wrt the 2 fairings. Any experience with the brackets?

I was looking yesterday and it looks like I could remove one of the front fairing mounting bolts, drill it out and mount each of my lights through those holes. It should be strong and sturdy enough. I have 4 Hella 500 lights to mount (2 fog, 2 driving). These are 6" diameter and quite light. I'm not too concerned if they get some vibration as these will only get used off road.

Now to figure out where to route the harness...

I finally had a chance to mount a couple of lights to my Baja rack. I haven't wired them yet, but I'm pleased with how they look/fit up there. I just enlarged a couple of the fairing bolt holes and used an oversized nylon washer to protect the fairing finish. There is no interference with the bolts at the back. Seems to be the perfect mount point for roof lights.

So far they seem rock solid - I'll confirm once they are wired.

All prices are in USD. They do not currently have a Canadian dealer - anyone interested? So that means us Canadian customers may have to pay duties and taxes on top of the prices above. If you want to place an order, please phone Baja at 760-621-0171 or email them at sales@bajarack.com. Mention IH8MUD.

***Update on Pricing***

I just called over to BR and tried to order a 64" rack for $415.00 and was turned down. I asked if he knew anything about the Mud pricing offer and he put me on hold to talk to the owner Sergio. The explanation given to me was that the above pricing was only good for 30 days and they will not honor these prices any further :ban:.

I did not get updated pricing on all three options, but the best price quoted to me was $450.00. I am in Ut and they quoted me $105.00 in shipping. I ended up not ordering because it doesn't seem like a great deal anymore.

my ARB rack was more to ship then that, plus the base price was higher as well. Just FYI.

gotta say I love my rack so far! I moved this past weekend and I loaded that bitch up solid with a ton of stuff and it did not even blink. Baja Rack was even nice enough to send me a cargo net (they must have forgot to give it to me with the rack) about 2 weeks after I bought the rack, without even me asking for it. Very happy.
