Hey gang, after a pretty crappy few days I finally own a 4 wheel drive Toyota (Lexus) again.
Not new to them though, years back I had a 97 Tacoma that I loved, but I found and 02 Tacoma with a supercharged 5vz-fe, on 33s that I loved even more. That was 07-08, and boy was that thing hungry for premium fuel which shot up to 4.50-5$ a gallon back then, not so great for a daily commute. So I reluctantly sold that truck and got a gas saver, but have always wanted to get back into one.
So fast forward to last week and I totaled my scion TC on the way to work. With a fresh baby and a growing family I knew an suv was in my future. I discovered the GXs and what they really were about a year ago, and have been looking at them for a while. I finally saw an opportunity and made my move.
I'm now the proud owner of a ridiculously clean (for now) and well maintained 05 with 94k on her.
I love this truck so far even though I get a little bit of "soccer van" hate from my close buds.
Anyways, just wanted to intro

Welcome. Don't worry about the haters. The GX has the right stuff. That's right, New Kid on the Block reference.:rimshot:

oh I went from a decked out Tacoma with winch, bumpers lift.... I am not mad about the purchase ever!! I love this thing and you will love yours. they are so good in so many ways.

Welcome :)

I miiiiight have to ruin the running boards in order to convince the wife they need to come off, she has already tried to claim the GX, even though she refused to look at them when we bought her a car 6 months ago, "that's too old, I need a 2012". She ended up with a Chevy.... Anyone wanna place bets as to which one our son will drive 16 years from now? My money is on a heavily modded GX. I told her yesterday if she really wants my truck, we're gonna go buy her one too!

Welcome to mud :flipoff2:

Now get those damn running boards off!
Welcome, and I agree totally with what Scat said! Taking them off makes these trucks look like they've lost 1,000 pounds! (And, if you'll notice, NO one uses them) People step over them getting in and out. They're only there to get your pants dirty......

Welcome to mud

I use my running boards... So do my kids. But I also have a bad back. I plan on making custom sliders that sit behind/under the running boards outer shell.

Welcome! You're gonna love the GX. Its one of my most favorite vehicles I've ever owned.

I wish I could ditch the running boards on mine but I use them to strap my canoes to the roof frequently. Took them off my 80 and it became a lot tougher to do. Maybe I should just keep a step stool in the GX.

Or...she can have that one and you can just buy mine that's ready to go!

Just use the tire to stand on or that little step inside the rear doors

That may be the way to go. Gets tough because I usually haul two canoes on top and they stick out about a foot on each side so you have to lean back at a weird angle when you tie them on the roof. It can be done though. I have a big action packer box I often carry that should work as a stool. I can always put them back on if it doesn't work out. Good bye running boards.
